If I could have taken your cancer, I would.
I would have inhaled it from your lungs into mine,
stored it inside my ribcage,
nestled it next to my fracturing heart.

But cancer is deaf to love's pleading.
Cancer makes no deals.

The vet's needle gave the coup de grâce.
Your heart stopped as I held you.
My heart crumbled into dust.

I'd love to, but he had really distinctive markings and it would be rather outing.

I will tell you a bit about who he was.

  • He would follow me around the house like a little shadow.
  • He sat on my desk next to me when I was working from home.
  • When I came home, he came to greet me.
  • He would sleep on my bed nearly every night and stay with me when I had a migraine.
  • He was really curious about the printer and would come running from wherever he was in the house if he heard it start up, and I had several printouts with claw scratches on because he tried to catch the pages as they emerged.
  • He liked sitting on me and would sit on me and purr to tell me he was hungry, but then get offended if I moved him off me so I could feed him.
  • He liked catnip and laser pointers.
  • He had the softest fur I ever felt and a loud purr.
  • He would come running when he heard the toaster pop because he knew he'd get a little butter.

So sorry you lost your soul cat. A paw print will be forever on your heart. When my much loved cat died aged 18 many years ago now I made a montage of photos from the time he was a kitten to in his old age. I hung it by the front door and it's the first thing I look at every time income home as he's no longer running up to me to greet me irl. I have 2 other cats I love very much but even now miss Mr Stripey.

I am so sorry. My DCat was put to sleep on Tuesday after her kidneys failed. It is horrible not having her in the house, I keep expecting her to jump up.

I know. I just put down my phone charger and thought, "Better not leave it there, it'll get chewed," and then realised again that she wasn't there to chew it...
Her loss is harder for us as she was another link to my DH who died a few years ago. She was there sitting on his bed when he died.
