Kitten jumping on dining table.

Hello, we have a new ragdoll kitten who is obsessed with human food and is constantly climbing up on the dining table. I think tonight I moved him off the table about 30 times. I have toddlers who are always dropping food on the floor and am also wondering if the kitten can get sick from eating their scraps - which sometimes have garlic/onion in it but in smaller amounts. Yesterday the kitten climbed up and started eating my child’s toast before my child got to it, so I had to remake it, que cranky child. I’m feeling like my only option here is to put the kitten in the bathroom/laundry 3+ times a day while we eat and clean up the food but wondering anyone has any other ideas or if they do stop this behaviour after a while. We already have had to pop him in the bathroom overnight as he attacks our feet nonstop so feeling a bit mean and very overwhelmed.

We had a water spray (like for plants) and this solved it for us after a few days. A harmless but irritating blast to the face! Use one with a fine spray though.

Welcome to the world of cat ownership. Ours get half a dozen dreamies at meal times for which they come running. Then I shut the kitchen door.

I’d love a solution for this too! I have an open plan kitchen/diner/living room and regularly have to put my cat outside when preparing food as she just constantly tries to jump up onto my kitchen counters 🙄

Feed the cat their main meal at the same time as yours.

My Ragdoll is so conditioned now he sits patiently waiting and won't start eating his tea until we start eating 😂.

You can attempt to control your cat's behaviour, which may, or may not work.
Or you can just give up and live with it.
I recommend the path of least resistance.

You could put them in a dog cage with some toys and dreamies for 5 minutes. All I have to do now is rattle a dreamies bag and he comes to me, they're a great incentive.

For me I’d feed at same time and if they try at other times put them down from the table and say no firmly. People say cats don’t listen but they do.
