Understanding this Cat's behaviour

I have an elderly female cat. I've had her over two years. Neutered. Never seen any other cats close by until a few weeks ago when a clearly young and probably male tabby started popping up. He looks well fed and seems very interested in my cat. I'm curious whether he 'fancies' my cat for want of a better word, or there's some territorial thing going on? My cat is gentle and nervous and doesn't assert herself so the other cat goes right up to her. I have the door propped open for my cat sometimes and the other cat has even come in, although he's very scared of me.

I wondered if anyone who understands cat behaviour has an idea what's going on? Is he just trying to make friends? I don't know if he's new to the area as I don't know where he lives. He doesn't look like a stray.

He’s just young and friendly, probably a chancer looking for an extra meal. I would keep a close eye on her for any behavioural changes; she might be fine with him coming round but she might start trying to mark out her territory.

Basically, let them sort it out. We had this with our neighbor’s cat and my girl has taught him some manners but he still comes over. Does this chap approach with his tail up?

Thank you for this. I don't know a lot about cats apart from my own. Yes I will definitely keep an eye on her. She's actually fairly used to other cats being around as my mum used to take in strays, but that was some time ago and obviously she's older now.

Yes he does. He seems keen on mine. He runs away if he sees me though!

Sounds like he’s just being friendly. If he keeps coming round he will probably get used to you and won’t be so skittish, although that might take some time. 😻

Seems friendly enough, but I’d be putting in a cat flap that works off your cats chip to stop the other cat coming in.
