We've seen a lovely little rescue cat and are hoping to bring her home at the end of the week.

First family cat, never had one before so just wanted to ask for any tips or advice at all that might be useful to help her settle in well, that we maybe wouldn't think of ourselves!

Thank you 🙂

I would go out with her a few times and stay while she has a nose around. Talk to her and let her hear your voice. She will need to associate the scents around your house with her home and she will need to come when she hears your voice.

That’s a good idea actually. Maybe sit in the garden and have tea coffee there so she knows you’re there.

Looks like a perfectly adapted people cat, great that you adopted them.

Mine have free range of the house all the time including night. They settle down pretty quickly when I go to bed and ok sometimes wake me up because they want to play or have company but are easily redirected. Timer feeders can be a godsend on the weekend in summer if you have a 4am waking cat 🐈 😆

Thanks everyone, really appreciate all this. We've no plans to let her out too soon but have made lots of notes from everything suggested.

She had vaccines on Thursday as well as worm spot on treatment and seems a wee bit off colour... sleeping lots, not wanting much fuss from us when she did before. My daughter is asking if we've broken her 😬.

She's eating and using her litter tray though which is good and will keep a close eye on her.

@LetMeJustCheckMyCitrusPocket our boy is always slightly off kilter for a few days after the flea stuff - reduced appetite mainly, not really behavioural changes. I asked the vet about it after his boosters in March and apparently it can make some (a very small number) cats feel nauseous, so they don’t want to eat much. She gave us a different treatment that lasts three months instead of the one we usually have that is every month, and he was actually the same after that. (At least it’s less frequent.)

Our previous girl was totally unbothered about the flea/worm treatments, but she absolutely hated the vet/box/car situ and got really distressed whenever we had to bring her in. She would be quite sulky and antisocial for a bit after boosters or any other vet trips,
