Can't stop stressing about my cat

He's 8 and been a bit odd the last few days. Then not really eating and early hours of this morning projectile vomited. He's still not eating and hiding up. Took him to the vets and they said he didn't have a fever and cant feel a blockage and his bladder feels ok. They've given him an injection to try and make him eat . I haven't slept properly and I'm so stressed. Dh is all " oh he's fine" which isn't helping. It's nearly Easter so the vets aren't even open tomorrow. They said to bring him back Saturday morning if he's still unwell. My kids love him so much and he's such a lovely cat. I know I can't do anything but I need to get it out how worried I am. Told my mum and she's all " if he died I will be just as upset as you" ( er no you won't, he's my furry baby).

I’ve just been through similar with my boy, though he’s 13 (adopted him age 10). Lack of appetite can be a sign of kidney issues. For me it was just an underlying feeling that he was “off”.

We tried a medication to stimulate appetite which worked for 2/3 days and then back to the fussiness. I have found he eats much better from my hands than anything in a dish. Also focus on the high value food- my boy’s having fresh tuna and lik-e-lix!

We went back and had blood tests, blood pressure and urine samples and it turns out he’s got stage 2 kidney disease. He does have FIV so at his age, it shouldn’t be a surprise. Just waiting for his prescription food and bloody pressure medication to arrive at the vets- looks like we’ve caught it early enough that we can support his kidney function with diet.

You know your boy best and if you’re not happy, get him back in the vets and ask for tests! My vets actually admitted him for the day and did the tests slowly which was less stressful for him and us.

Go to a 24 hour vet if you can’t go tomorrow.

Hi OP. I had similar. I found a packet of treats ripped apart somewhere behind furniture he got all the meat sticks out of but must’ve eaten some of the sharp plastic. Even though there was no blockage it must’ve either scraped his throat or upset his stomach and he refused food for 3 days. He also had the appetite injections and they did nothing really. Vet said they’re good at hiding pain but are also very weird with eating when unwell. They will associate feeing sick with the food in front of them which puts them off mentally. So even though they’re hungry and willing to eat the association of their normal meal will keep this cycle of not wanting it. She suggested plain chicken to just entice him, or a pack of other brand food and eventually he did go back to eating normally.

Thanks today he seems hungry but won't eat the special food they gave me or his normal. He will eat treats tho.
