Cats in Dubai - request for help if you can!

Hi all
I'm posting this in the hope that someone in the lovely litter box community knows someone who can help. I was contacted today by the rescuers in Dubai, that we adopted Marvin from, 6 months ago. With the situation in Dubai so precarious, they are anxious that they may have to leave suddenly, which would mean leaving the three rescue cats they have available for adoption behind. They are only a small rescue and don't have lots of international contacts, so I promised I would spread the word. They are lovely people who are very distressed about the situation and the cats are well looked after and socialised. I can vouch for their care by how well Marvin has settled in. I know not everybody agrees with adoption from overseas, but if anyone knows someone who might be interested please PM me for details. Attached are pics of two of the cats. Thank you!

If you look closely up you can see your name right across their foreheads.

Genuine question and I absolutely do not want to sound like a dick but why would you adopt from abroad? Are there not a lot of cats in this country needing a home? It seems like a massive effort and expense, never mind the stress to the poor cat, to bring it thousands of miles to a new home?

This is not very helpful.

The op is clearly trying to be kind. You are coming across as a dick, which you know very well you are, despite your protests

It’s not being a dick to suggest that it’s mental to adopt a cat from Dubai when there are thousands of cats right here. It’s a waste of the world’s resources. If nobody wants the Dubai cats put them down humanely. Don’t spend thousands pointlessly shipping them all around the world.

No she isn’t. It is a perfectly reasonable post.

As I said in my opening post I know not everybody agrees with adoption from abroad and that's fine . I have done it twice and am very glad to have done so. This post isn't intended to rehearse the rights and wrongs of each position. You won't change my mind and I won't change yours. It is intended to bring some cats in need of help to a wider audience - that's all.

I absolutely agree. I just don’t understand the viewpoint that being put to sleep is the worst that can happen to an animal.

Although I will bite at this classic 😊 Waste of the world's resources is a new one on me! Do you think the cats charter their own planes? Silly.

How would you be able to adopt those cats under the current circumstances?

People are fleeing Dubai without their pets so not sure how that is going to work.

Puppylucky · 11/03/2026 17:44

They are fleeing Dubai without their pets because they can't be bothered to take them is the honest truth. Flying cats and dogs from Dubai to the UK is relatively cheap and easy and there is no quarantine period.

I really think your best bet is to ask a cat charity to list them and help look for homes for them. Fylde coast cats on Facebook have won lots of awards I’m sure they would be happy to help.

Are you serious put them down humanely is there such thing as humane death to a healthy animal I don’t think so.

So they just can't be bothered to take them with them and want someone to adopt them instead?

@CypressGrove Sorry I'm not sure what you are talking about? This is a rescue - they are not the pet owners and won't be flying to the UK.

Of course there is.

There might be thousands of cats in the UK but many rescues have ridiculous rules and won't allow perfectly capable potential owners to adopt.

We looked into adopting from Dubai and had there been a cat that was a good fit for us we would have had no qualms in doing so. Planes will fly with or without the cats so 'the worlds resources' would have been the least of my concerns,

faerylights · 13/03/2026 11:55

Do all the posters advocating for adoption from abroad not care about the impact that has on the cats health?

Puppylucky · 13/03/2026 12:00

Have you ever adopted a cat from abroad or know anything about it @faerylights ? I'm struggling to understand why you think there would be an impact on the cats health? Other than the positives of access to a good diet and vet care in their new homes!

Yes, I know plenty about it - cats die on the flights and become seriously unwell through the stress of travelling. You also need to consider diseases being brought into the UK.

Puppylucky · 13/03/2026 12:30

The risk of death of a cat on a flight can't be ruled out but is extremely rare. Most cats just "shut down" and sleep throughout the flight. Cats are vet checked before travel and have to provide a clean bill of health. They are also checked again on arrival. If you are interested in learning more then can I suggest the Sandy Paws website - they are animal relocation experts and should be able to help you understand that the concerns you have are largely unfounded. Hope that helps!

Thanks, but I’ll carry on focusing on all the cats who are homeless in this country before I support any kind of importation from overseas.

So it’s OK for cats from abroad to go to unchecked homes?
