Cannot find my rescue cat

Help! Picked her up two days ago and she’s been decompressing but has disappeared from her usual spot. She definitely came into the bedroom last night and explored as I woke up. She then took off downstairs to her hidey hole but isn’t there this morning.

im freaking as I’ve just discovered the bedroom window was open ….not much but enough that a determined cat could get through.

There are several items on the windowsill though which are not disturbed and I think they would be if she’d got out.

Freaking out now. Feeling sick.

there are plenty of other spaces she can hide.

We had her in the living room but I left the door open last night so she could go further if she wanted (and she did).

Cats can get into the smallest weirdest spaces. Especially nervous rescues. One of mine once got up behind the boiler flue and into the ceiling after being scared by a tradesman and stayed up there for 3 days. There’s every chance yours is hidden somewhere in the house. Fingers crossed for you. And if she does show up I would recommend an air tag so you can follow the signal to find them!

Panic over, in the airing cupboard, phew. Window shut and all well. God that was awful.

Air tag sound a good idea.

Oh you must be so worried. I think if she's feeling nervous in a new environment then it's unlikely she would have ventured outside, or even discovered the window if she's hiding a lot.

It's amazing, the nooks & crannies they can find to hide in. I'm sure she will appear out of nowhere. In the meantime, go through each room as slowly and calmly as you can, looking on top of things like cupboards too.

Really hope she turns up soon x

Ahh, she found a lovely warm spot. Clever kitty.
Glad all is good. Will you share some photos once she is feeling happier?

So glad you've found her!

Testing your love for her already - cats know exactly what they're doing 😆

Hiding places mine found when they were still new included:

Under a chest that was literally 3 inches off the floor
Behind a bookcase
Behind the curtains, both on the windowsill and on the floor
Behind the TV stand
Behind the sofa (which is against the wall)
INSIDE the sofa covers, and in the mechanism for the recliners.

Once they had other parts of the house:

Under my bed
In the bottom of the wardrobe
Airing cupboard (of course)
Behind the curtains in other rooms
In the tiny gap between the bedroom door when opened and a wardrobe.
In my bed under the covers
Behind my desk in the office

And of course the first two being black, curled up on a black throw!

Glad you found her.

When I first got one of mine, she went behind the fridge and from there, under the cupboard

So relieved …Dreamies have been sent up to her courtesy of DS.

Glad you found her. Little minx. 😍

Once found ours (eventually) between the end of the bed and the trunk at the end of the bed. Must have been no more than three inches wide, as per @Allergictoironing 's post...

Also once combed the neighbourhood knocking doors for an escaped kitten, only to find him cowering under a bush next to the kitchen door...

Mine spent the first 48 hours under the sofa. I was so worried about how low it was I ended up propping the front legs up on books and not sitting on it. He’s never since managed to get back under it, even to get his favourite toys out when he bats them under it (I’m expected to move it out on a regular basis to recover them for him).

My back is too bad (plus I'm too lazy) to pull the sofa out on a regular basis. I have a long narrow-ish pole that I insert under the sofa & sweep anything towards the front with it - brings almost everything out easily.

One of mine used to hide up the chimney so if you couldn’t find her elsewhere, you had to shine a torch up before lighting the fire!!

This would freak me out! Our previous cat used to show a big interest in the chimney, and when one morning we couldn't find her I had a horrible fear she'd gone up it! In the end we found her inside the base of the spare bed (a kind of weird arrangement with big springs), tail hanging down.

The chimney has been blocked to the current pair! (with an inflatable device that comes out easily if we need to light the fire)
