Cat doesn’t want to eat her wet food

My cat has been on this brand of wet food (premium) since we got her (5 months ago) and was wolfing it down. The last few days she hasn’t touched it. She’ll come over to sniff it but just walks away.
She eats her dry food ok and likes her treats and lickables but it’s a no on the wet that she used to love.

Should I be worried? I’m going to get a different brand today to try……….

She is still playful and running about and no issues with digestion/ going to the toilet- all normal there.

thanks in advance for any advice

My parent’s cat used to do this every few months. They had to cycle the brands they bought. Nothing wrong with him - he was just a princess.

Hopefully your cat is the same and will enjoy a new brand for a few months before turning her nose up at it.

My kitten is the same, used to wolf down her wet food but last couple of weeks hasn’t been interested. Still loved the dry food and lickable treats and is playful and active. Interested in others experiences!

I suppose if I had the same meal plonked down in front of me for 5 months, I might think I can't face that anymore and go and eat a mouse or something.

We always switch brands and flavours with ours as I imagine it must be incredibly dull to eat the same food everyday for your entire life.

My cat is 8/9 but she started to do this a couple of months ago. I googled it and it said that they can go off their food for no reason. She isn't losing any weight, so I don't stress if she doesn't eat it. I don't put down any fresh until she eats it, or it's been there for 24 hours, less in summer.

She always has a full bowl of biscuits and water, so isn't going hungry.

I switched from Tesco own brand to Felix. She then started to do the same to the Felix. She has to eat it or go without though until the Felix has run out. (I buy boxes of 40/48 at a time to save money). She will eat the occasional Tesco one again now.

As long as it's eating something and not losing weight, then I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks for the responses. She does eat poached chicken whenever I make it- but will get some Felix so at least we have different offerings.

Squirt a bit of lic a lix on it and cat will probably eat it.

cshp · 22/02/2026 00:35

😆 shes holding out for the poached chicken and treats.
Cats will eventually eat what's on offer when they're hungry

Five months??!!

Blimey. Ours turn their noses up after five days.😺😸😺

SooticaTheWitchesCat · 22/02/2026 14:16

Mine will love a certain kind of food for a while and then suddenly refuse to eat it (usually as soon as I buy a few boxes). Then he will love something else for a while before going off that too.
That’s cats for you!

Sunshineandrainbow · 22/02/2026 15:32

I think it's best to have a selection of food in and rotate.
Just to let you know felix has made some cats ill when they changed the recipe a few years ago.

I tend to get cheaper wet food as that what cat will eat and better quality dry food (purizon)
I also give chopped cooked chicken.
Wet food we have - morrisons mousse, encore and sheba at the moment.

Iamthemoom · 22/02/2026 15:35

Maybe try a food topper -the Thrive one is good and you get a lot for your money compared to other brands. Or Purina probiotic powder. A sprinkle of either might reignite their appetite for wet food.

ElizabethBennetsFineEyes · 22/02/2026 17:01

Is it the premium gourmet ones? Ours went off those too. Apparently the recipe has changed. We are now on untamed.

Puppylucky · 23/02/2026 08:40

I would avoid Felix personally as once they're hooked on it it's very hard to get them to eat anything else and Felix is very poor nutritionally ( and causes very stinky poos).

whereisitnow · 23/02/2026 09:10

They can be fussy! Our cat has dry science diet plus felix and he eats both but doesn’t like either on its own.
