End of the road?

I think we are coming to the end of the road with our beautiful russian blue 15 year old. About two years ago he was diagnosed with IBD. We have tried very hard to manage his condition (liquid poo, incontinence, blood in poo, the smell that would stink up a two storey house). We tried every specialist gastro food, probiotic, etc. the food bill alone is £200+ per month. He's on prednisolone and metronidazole

He's still loosing weight and recently stopped eating his another specialist vet food. I put him on boiled fish and prawns (the only things that he will eat), but he's just a bag of bones. Sleeps a lots, rarely purrs.

We both work a lot and have a toddler, keeping on top of the mess is really really difficult. Every time I bring my child back from nursery I have to check over the house for accidents (have previously found poo on her playmat). My dd is very fold of him and tries to hug him, constantly touching his tail, etc. and we just have to clean her hands every time.

My husband is a trooper and does all the cleaning but he can't fully clean carpets, etc. I've started talking to him about perhaps saying goodbye to our beloved boy but he keeps thinking there must be something more we could do, wait till summer when he could go outside in the garden (he's generally a house cat) and have a better quality of life. I feel like we ran out of options.

Speak to your vet as to what is left to try but it sounds like your cat hasn't got a decent quality of life at the moment. If he's skin and bones and still loosing weight then it's probably time. I'm so sorry Flowers

It really does sound like his quality of life is poor and unlikely to improve much, if at all. I understand your husband not wanting to let dcat go but maybe it's the kindest thing. I agree with pp, maybe see what the vet recommends for him.
