What time do you feed you cat?

I am just wondering what time you give them their last meal of the day and then how long do they go until breakfast? I feed mine dinner at about 5ish but then I feel like that’s a long time to go until 8am the next morning so I end up giving her more. I can try and feed her later in the day but she gets very persistent with me that she needs food NOW!

I know a lot of people will leave biscuits down overnight, but I am asking about the cats that don’t have this. Mine needs to lose weight and I have been advised not to leave food down at all times and just feed set meals. I’m just struggling with knowing what times to feed

We feed ours first thing in the morning and then around 5pm. I do give her a half a pouch before bedtime because, like you say, it does seem a long time from 5pm until morning. Maybe just do smaller portions?

Usually 12 hour gap but biscuits in between. 6 and 6, but is a longer gap if im working, they are very pampered but absolutely fine with this

Fresh dry food and later 24/7 and then he’s usually a creature of habit - half a small tin of tuna for breakfast (6am), then a “second breakfast” at 8am (sachet or similar) - then sleeps til 4pm and one final sachet at evening time. Rinse and repeat!

We do 8, 2, 8, approximately. We dare not do less.

In lockdown we started giving our previous cat lunch (so her breakfast split into two meals) because it always felt mean that we were at home eating and she wasn’t! We sadly had to have her pts in 2024 and just kept the routine with our boy who we got shortly after - so he gets breakfast, lunch, dinner, and then supper later on.

He gets one pouch of Sheba and one tin of Untamed, plus a mix of Go Cat and RC biscuits, split over the four meals. Lunch is demanded bang on 12 - I don’t know how he copes on the days we’re both in the office. His last meal is about 8pm but he usually finishes it overnight and not straight away. If I’m home in the morning he usually gets a “chicken yoghurt” about 10am.

We had our girl back and forth to the vet with vomiting over about six months - that turned out to be her only symptom of intestinal lymphoma. The vet said she shouldn’t have more than an eight hour gap between meals, but she was an absolute hoover who would leave no morsel untouched immediately her dish was filled. Our boy is much more of a grazer.

Mine has half a pouch for breakfast. Soup for lunch and half a pouch about 5.
He also has biscuits down, a few treats in the day and some Lik e Lix before I go to bed

Backfromhols · 24/01/2026 00:25

7am (later at weekends) wet & dry food, then 5pm the same again, if we’re planning to be out at that time we leave a timed feeder. Treats (dreamies etc) are around 7pm.

I currently have three cats, I give them unlimited dry food and a very very small amount of wet food twice a day, around 7:30am and 5pm - oldest boy cat is the most active and probably overweight, the other two are girls and very light and aren't very active despite being younger - they honestly all seem to eat the same amounts.

Whenever their bowls are empty.

On demand. Arthur generally gets a pouch first thing am, then before we go to bed. He has IAMS down all day.

However, sometimes he wants more, several times a day, every time we go in the kitchen. Sometimes he just sleeps all day. If we neglect him, he searches for us and bites us on the ankles. He also subs with mousey snacks.

Mine are on the lean side as they are ridiculously active still (almost 3 but hunt, climb trees all day).

Emily has a mid morning breakfast and then will eat twice in the afternoon/evening (4pm and about 8pm). She also eats a lot of mice and rabbits. She is out almost all day in all
weather. She’s very little and a bit mad. She’s not food motivated but is a hunting savage.

Toby has early breakfast at 7am, late breakfast at 10am, early lunch at midday, late lunch at 2ish, early tea at 4pm and supper at 8pm. He stays much closer to home and inspects his bowl every couple of hours. He hunts less than his sister but spends most of the day up tall trees. He lives for a pouch.

They both have ad lib dried food too.

When I am WFH I basically spend most of it feeding Toby and wondering where Emily is. She goes miles across the fields with the sheep.

What gorgeous names!
