Wet food for fat but happy cat?

We have a lovely 7 year old male cat who is extremely placid, loves nothing more than cuddles and company. He has free access to the outdoors but often doesn’t bother and seems perfectly happy with the way life is. However, he is rather overweight 7.24kg, and this is after he has lost some weight over the last six months!

Can anyone recommend a better quality wet and dry food combination for weight loss? He isn’t really enthused by biscuits and although he will tolerate them, the vets suggestion of a biscuit only diet didn’t go down well over the last few weeks so I’m on the hunt for some wet food that has better meat quality etc which might keep him fuller.

thanks.

Untamed has a really high meat content.

Hi Op, my current cat has taken just under two years to go from 8 kg to her target weight of 4.5 kg, she was 6 yrs old when we got her. I’ve just replied to another weight related thread explaining how we fed her in terms of meal times 😁

From the beginning I’ve used a wet pouch in the morning and biscuits in the late afternoon. The rehoming centre advised to alternate each day between 2 brands of pouches, as it apparently improves their metabolism and keeps them interested. I use Hill’s Prescription Diet Feline Metabolic and Royal Canin Light Weight Care wet pouches, and Royal Canin Light Weight Care biscuits. Even though she’s now at her target weight, the vet advised I stick with diet food. Dieting a cat isn’t easy, good luck !

Another useful tool for helping a dieting cat is a slow feeder, our cat wolfed her food but it now takes her 6 mins to eat her biscuits. It can make them feel fuller as they’ve spent longer eating. Here’s what I have

Brilliant, thank you both very much for this.

My cat likes Applaws and/or Encore. Both high protein foods with no grain fillers. She is also prone to tubbiness, but I keep her on a strict diet at home - it's just when she goes to the cattery that she gets a bit porky!
