Shredding the wallpaper! :o

Had two 7-month boys for three weeks now. They are adorable but one is intent on shredding our hallway wallpaper. He's totally stripped a convex corner, which we've covered with a wall mounted scratch pad to at least cover the damage, and I've moved some things in front of similar corners that he likes to scratch if he can get his paws around both sides.

But he's now moving on to other areas of the wallpaper- I imagine things will get a bit better when we can let them outside, but we have another 5 weeks until then and I can't block off all the wallpaper! Any tips? Or are we just going to have to live with shredded wallpaper unless or until he calms down a bit. 😭

I wish I had the answer for you , I have a similar problem with a carpet picker. I swore I’d not be getting another cat so that the whole house re done with a lovely expensive carpet of my choice … then saw a beautiful rescue who almost perfect in every way apart from his insistence of ignoring the various cat scratch bits all over the house and picking my beautiful carpet to peices
Hopefully someone may have a solution for your lovely wallpaper 😩

The only good thing is he tends to make quite a lot of noise verbally when attacking wallpaper, so you can hear when he's doing it and go interrupt him at least.

They do it to scent for security and familiarity.

Cardboard scratching pads are fantastic, they love the corrugated paper. I have a wallpaper ripper (age 11) that returns to the wallpaper whenever I forget to have cardboard scratching pads. With yours being so little, they'll probably enjoy the little ones that are in Home Bargains or B&M. They last about 2 weeks and then you can flip them over to rip up the other side. I vaccum up the loose bits every few days and it makes them last a bit longer. As the cat gets bigger, you can get bigger ones from Pets at Home or Zooplus online.

Thanks - we have one that he does use, I was thinking about leaving a few more around.

They're already pretty big - my last two cats were girls and at 7 months I think these twos are the same size as my last one already, but you can tell by their big ears they are going to grow some more still!

Strip and paint the walls, I'm afraid. They will always go back to it!

Have you tried blu-tacking sheets of silver foil to the walls? Apparently cats dont like the noise it makes when touched, so that might put them off.

I'm sure they'll lose interest in the wallpaper once they can go outside, and then you can gradually remove the silver foil.

I have a 4yr old wallpaper stripper, she has done ut ever since we first rescued her. We haven't found a way to stop her. Tried the cardboard things, rope scratch posts and that adhesive stuff you stick to walls and furniture but she totally ignores them.

No great wins unfortunately, and being outdoors doesn't stop mine im afraid.

My only suggestion would be a squirt of wager every time you see him doing it and hope he is young enough to learn!
