Cat jumping on kitchen counter

Hi my male cat has started to jump on the kitchen counter/sink/hob as soon as my back is turned. Never used to do this.
Every time I start preparing food he starts hanging around crying like I’m preparing his food!
He is on 1/2 wet sachet daily and 3 dry food feeds (Automatic feeder). He is at the correct weight.
His sister from same litter doesn’t do this.
I’ve tried putting pepper down and foil on counter to limited success. It’s also rather unsightly.
Any advice gratefully received!

I think he's telling you he is hungry, perhaps feed him just before you do food prep? Also, half a sachet a day is a small amount and your cat could simply want the rest of it, grins.

Luckily my last one and the one I have now show no interest on kitchen worktop. I have had partners roast dinner on the side before and all ignored. My cat a couple of weeks ago didn't even help herself to the overnight food that I normally put down for her. All prepped but forgot to put on her feeding box. Oh well!

He has 3 other meals as well as sharing half a wet pack with his sister. He seems to have an insatiable appetite. We leave no food ever on counter. Oh well think we will just have to live with it 🤣🐈‍⬛

I find my cat gets hungrier when the colder weather comes, it must be an instinct thing to fatten up for the winter (even though he is spoilt rotten and doesn’t have to hunt for anything 🤣)

I've given up. The cats do what they want.

They do, ain’t no telling a cat what to do
