I have life time cover PDSA but he's vets is vets for pets 50 a month he's a boxer 5 months old

Pet Plan are one of the best pet Insurances in my opinion, although definitely not one of the cheapest. Ensure you take out the life time cover. My cats have been Insured with them for 13 years and they have always been great when making a claim. I think vets find them easy to deal with too.

dementedpixie · 15/12/2025 06:40

Mine are with ManyPets. Petplan was too expensive as I have 2 cats

MsGinaLinetti · 15/12/2025 08:17

Thank you

I've never had a cat due to allergies, but I've always had lifetime insurance with Animal Friends for my dogs. I've had to claim several times and they've been great. Currently pay £32 a month for my 9yr old rescue staff who cost them £2k in February.

AnonKat · 15/12/2025 08:35

I use petplan for ours from kittens and both are pver 10 now. Ive had about 10k in payouts for one cat. Very prompt at paying directly, takes the stress out.

We do have premium protection though, so premium hasnt increased much. But my excess has due to age.

MsGinaLinetti · 15/12/2025 10:40

Ah thanks
yes the excess is £85 atm.

Don't have cats but dog is insured by petplan he has just turned 4 and at the current rates they'll have still paid out more than I've paid to them until he is nearly 6! 6.5k this year due to a leg injury that nearly cost his leg. Best thing was that the vet dealt straight with petplan and I didn't have to do anything other than pay the excess.

Petplan was too expensive for me as I have 2 cats

Gabbycat245 · 15/12/2025 20:21

Petplan were great with dcat. Cost them a fortune, but thet never turned down a claim and paid promptly. Always get cover for life! Mine had a heart condition the last 3 years of his life which would have costs us thousands had he not been insured, or only insured on a non-cover for life basis.

I totally agree, not the cheapest but definitely one of the best!

We did a lot of research when we got our kitten, and PetPlan were really well regarded. Our kitten then got very sick indeed with a complex illness, and they were excellent, with all bills paid promptly, despite lots of separate visits to the vets and a transfer of care to a specialist.
We’ve had friends with other insurers who really struggled to get claims accepted, and I’m so grateful we didn’t have to battle to get the vets bills paid.

Ijwwm · 16/12/2025 02:45

I’ve used PetPlan for over 15 years. Always gone for Lifetime cover for peace of mind. I’ve never had any issues with them, always prompt payments.

Animal Friends fucked my mum over, which resulted in her cat not being covered for a potential long term issue. I’d never use them.

putthekettleonn · 16/12/2025 02:50

My PetPlan lifetime cover is now £52 a month for my little cat, I've only claimed back about £500 of the >£5k i've spent so far.

I pay about £56 a month for 2 cats with ManyPets and they are 9. Price goes up as they get older too

Perimenoanti · 16/12/2025 14:24

I have two cats under petplan for lifetime cover. I only take insurance in case of chronic or recurring issues. I claimed once which was incredibly quick and they even paid out for a sanitary trim my vet gave after a bout of diarrhea.

Randombigswede · 17/12/2025 07:06

I had Petplan for 15 years with my cat and always found them fast and easy to claim with. The reason I always recommend them is at the end of her life, the last claims that ended with her being pts (all linked to one vet stay) were paid without any fuss and her cover was promptly ended without my having to contact them to ask or speak to them at a horrible time. They just sent an email of condolence confirming they’d ended the cover and refunding the remaining premiums. I was worried they’d quibble as her final illness could technically have included something that was excluded from her cover (was worried they’d ask for an autopsy etc) as pre-existing but they just paid the large claim. It was something I really appreciated in those dark days and a reason I’d always recommend them.

ohreallyIsee · 18/12/2025 06:23

We've got petplan lifetime for our 7yr old cat, only had 1 relatively small claim up until July this year, now on about £4000+ this year(emergency call out as he became unwell on a Saturday, dental extraction and then a urethral blockage!), always found them easy to deal with, our vets do it through direct pay so we haven't had to payout and claim back
