Was anyone else daft enough to take on an unspayed cat?

Oh, sweet Lord. This is a nightmare. I haven’t slept properly in days due to the constant yowling through the night.
Spay is booked for Tuesday, thank God.
Background: she’s a rescue cat who had a litter not too long ago (before my time, obviously). She and her kittens were given up as very poorly. So she needed recovery time before having an op.

I love her to pieces but I would never take on another unspayed cat. Thankfully she hasn’t been spraying too much, so that’s something. Only on daughter’s bed and the bathroom mat 😁

Yep. We took on an unwanted, half feral, young cat.
She was booked in to be done days after we got her, but it had to be postponed when she started yowling and spraying, also on our bath mat!
Thankfully a distant memory now, but it was a nightmare for several days.
Wishing you luck!
(ps when you start a thread in the litter tray, it is customary to pay the cat tax of uploading a cute photo of your cat)

She’s quiet as a mouse, now that I’m sitting with her. She can’t be alone for a hot minute 😄
Trust me to take on an unwell, needy and unspayed cat!
Just as well I love her so much (2 months she has been in my life and counting 😉).

But I’m clearly an angel, so what are you talking about woman?

Is she spraying wee? I have heard of unneutered toms spraying a sticky substance that is wee and secretions but not female cats.

No advice, all our cats came neutered

JMSA · 13/12/2025 08:06

Yes, it’s wee. I’ve googled and it’s also a thing with unspayed females. I didn’t know this either until the other day!

And every tom cat in the neighbourhood trying to get to your cat.

We adopted a cat that the shelter believed had been spayed. She hadn't.

We would come home from work to find tom cats lurking in the front and back garden, peering through windows, or trying to ram raid the cat flap.

😂😂😂 she’s beautiful 😻

ArcticGrass · 13/12/2025 08:37

My brother took on 4 feral cats, cost him a fortune at the vets, but they live, happily in the garage, so no wee in the house.

None at all actually. I live in a neighbourhood where there just wouldn’t be unneutered toms. Plus, our garden is high up off street level (there’s a huge wall at the foot of it). So thank heavens for small mercies!

I think I read somewhere that unneutered toms can travel quite some distance in search of a mate - that's why they've such short life expectancy. But she's getting spayed in any case. Poor cat has been through the mill, what happened to the kittens?

Thank you. I honestly feel like a proud mother whenever she gets compliments 😁

They recovered too and were rehomed! ☺️

Yes, but fortunately she never came into season before she got spayed but I was so on edge!

JMSA · 16/12/2025 01:04

She pooped on my bed today and then peed on the feather cushions in the lounge!
Please tell me this behaviour will end when spayed 😭

Are you sure it's heat and not something else? I'd tell the vet today about the sudden toileting everywhere because it sounds a bit odd, but I've never had a female cat unspayed beyond 6 months so it may be a thing.

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 16/12/2025 08:41

But look at that little face!

Toddlerteaplease · 16/12/2025 16:00

She is clearly the innocent party. How could you suspect such a beautiful cat

capybaraforlife · 16/12/2025 16:26

That face!!!! She is clearly completely innocent and we will hear no more on the matter!

I bought my un neutered 10 month old ragdoll kitten from a 19 year old student who couldn’t (or didn’t want to) keep her any longer.. she wasn’t chipped either and he hadn’t got any papers or had lost them so was unsure if she was even vaccinated!!
So the first thing i did was take her to the vet, get her chipped and her first lot of vaccines and booked in for her spay.
She was on heat when I bought her so very affectionate but actually v quiet with it. As soon as she went off heat she was the opposite- very aggressive! Then she had her op… the first night post op she slept cuddled up to me bless her. That was in July.
She’s 15 months old now approximately and the craziest cat I’ve had really! She’s only barely 4kg very fluffy and feisty!
I think she left her mum too young as she chews everything!
Shes an indoor cat so uses my lounge & stairs as an assault course. I have a pink cat tower in the window, a large scratch post and can’t have a Xmas tree!
Pic shows the menace.
(she’s a tortie ragdoll allegedly with 1/4 Persian)

oh yes & my kitten didn’t & doesn’t wee anywhere apart from her tray. She has never sprayed. I would definitely talk to the vet OP.

Haha, I'm not surprised! My boy is obviously fixed but he's a proper flirt still! We have about 5 regular lady callers most days, they all just sit and hang out...he is 14 now but thinks he's still a player! 😆
