Oh god - is this an urgent vet job?

Posted on here at the beginning of the month as I had a very shy semi feral kitten from a rescue.

She is doing so much better now - completely out of her shell. However this morning vomited up what looks like a ton of worms . I’m going to post a picture on a separate post so if you are of a sensitive disposition don’t scroll down.

She came flea’d and wormed but clearly it’s worn off?! Or maybe she wasn’t worm’d at all.

I would ring the vets and ask for advice. Adult cats should be wormed monthly but I don’t know about kittens.

OSTMusTisNT · 30/11/2025 12:46

Kittens are meant to be wormed every couple of weeks until 3 months. Then monthly until 6 months. Finally, every 3 months for life after that.

If you've never wormed or flea treated kitten (and all your other pets) will be totally infested with god knows what.

Binglebong · 30/11/2025 12:47

If she is well in herself then first thing tomorrow morning. If she is poorly then vet now.

Lipido · 30/11/2025 12:48

They didn’t know how old she was - she was found in a Tesco carpark.

Guessing around 5-6 months

She’s quite well in herself and eating normally

I have just googled and it looks like roundworm. Apparently vomitting up worms is sign of a serious infection so yes she needs to go to the vet tomorrow but depending on your job today could be more convient but more expensive.

Thingsyoucantadmitoutloud · 30/11/2025 12:51

I would take her to the vets ASAP. That's a huge infestation

Just remembered it's Sunday. If she's OK in herself I'd probably wait till tomorrow but I'd definetly take her tomorrow. I've had cats for almost 10 years and I have never seen any of mine vomit up anything like that 😭

Lifeneedsaresetagain · 30/11/2025 12:52

@Lipido instead of posting on here I’d be taking the cat to a vet that is open on Sundays.

Smartiepants79 · 30/11/2025 12:53

Oh my god I’ve never seen anything like that! I would at least try ringing the vets for advice!

user2848502016 · 30/11/2025 12:55

If you have a pets at home near you you might be able to get meds for her today, although they might say she needs to see a vet due to her age and heavy infestation. I wouldn’t say it’s an emergency vet situation though, tomorrow morning will be fine

Theunamedcat · 30/11/2025 12:57

Oo

Theunamedcat · 30/11/2025 12:58

Oof that's a heavy infestation is there anywhere near you open today? Vets in the morning minimally

Peoplemakemedespair · 30/11/2025 12:58

Can you contact the rescue? Surely they’ll be contactable on a Sunday and can give you advice

lljkk · 30/11/2025 12:59

vet requird but doesn't have to be today. My vets let you book non-urgent appts online

Birchtree1 · 30/11/2025 13:14

No emergency vet required if kitten is well otherwise. Go to pets at home and buy some panacur liquid wormer. Works well, quite possibly what your vet would sell you tomorrow.

FlibbertyGibbitt · 30/11/2025 13:22

No kitten pic ? Please Op !

TalulahJP · 30/11/2025 13:32

I’d be phoning the out of hours vet and emailing the pic to ask if it can wait. The poor kitten. Worms can kill.

Iamdefinitelynamechangingforthis · 30/11/2025 13:36

I’ve had cats all my life and never seen anything like that.

Vets tomorrow definitely; maybe as others have said, see if you can get Panacur or even the drop on wormer and start her on a course now.

Also - kitten pic needed!!

Toddlerteaplease · 30/11/2025 13:37

Are you sure it’s not spaghetti?!

MrTiddlesTheCat · 30/11/2025 14:07

I've never seen the likes in 50+ years of cat servitude. PPs are right, it looks like roundworm.

Redburnett · 30/11/2025 14:08

Looks like roundworms so the treatment at rescue obviously has not worked properly

Redburnett · 30/11/2025 14:10

Just to add, saw similar years ago from a kitten from a farm. After worming (and ongoing regular worming) he lived a good life, risking it regularly by walking up the white line in the middle of the road outside!

Lipido · 30/11/2025 14:11

Put her in the car and drove to pets at home, showed the vets the pic and they didn’t seem overly concerned, put a dropper on the back of her neck

Shes mightily pissed off but otherwise is fine

Re the person who said spaghetti - I’m not going to lie I did look at it for 5 mins and wonder if she’d been eating my knitting wool or some odd cotton/ribbon

Vet confirmed worms !

That was good you got a vet OP. Im glad the little one is ok. Poor thing must have been feeling awful. I pay £26 a month for all my wormers nail clips etc and helps me budget better as wormers are dear these days amd Im terrified my cat gets like that amd i panic at a weekend!
