Cat trackers

Can Anyone recommend a tracker that fits in my cats collar. I’ve bought AirTags but they just seem to tell me whether they’re home or when they were last home. I presume they’re not travelling close enough to other iPhones.

I have a Tracktive GPS dog tracker that works really well for my dog who just loves to run. They do smaller cat trackers too.

Do you have to charge it often or does the battery last a long time? I’ve seen some that only last a few days and my cats will have 24/7 outdoor access via a cat flap eventually

One of mine has a PetTracer collar. It’s a collar that has the tracker built in, as opposed to being something that attaches to their existing collar.

I have this one for our cat which works really well, you do have to charge it as it won't last all day but we have a locking cat flap so we can stop him going out whilst it's charging https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0BX6PCCWD?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_1&th=1

You also have to subscibe to the app which is about £84 a year so not cheap but it is very accurate, you can set boundaries with alerts if they go out of this area etc

I really like the idea of them. Unfortunately, all of the ones available are too bulky for the fine necks of my Siamese cats. Then there is the repeated losing of collars 🙄

I've got a Tractive for our nutcase Maine Coon. So far we've had the safety collar pop off three times; once in someone's house, once in the middle of the path to the house and once in a garden two streets away which involved knocking on a door and explaining to a bemused owner that we'd like to look round his back garden for a cat collar!

But it's worth it for the day he went into someone's house, found the coal cellar and then got prevented from escaping by their rather large dog.

The actual thing lasts a couple of days per charge. I get notifications that it's low and send texts to DH (who WFH) saying the cat needs charging so he can intercept next time said cat appears.
One important thing: do NOT charge it on a fast charging adapter or it'll kill the battery (bitter experience here). A slow 1A PC usb is ideal.

If he was a normal sized to small cat it would definitely be too large though. It's 5cm long by 3cm wide.

We use tractive and have done for years. They're accurate, if a little bulky and battery lasts a few days at least depending how far they roam. As they are quite bulky we have lost quite a few. Lots found again if in a neighbour's garden etc but some gone forever if in thick hedges.
