We took on a cat from a friends relative who could no longer look after her. She’s a lovely girl aged about 10.
shes an outdoor cat but since coming here spends a lot of time inside, however still does go out.
we took her to vet today for check up. Healthy looking but vet said looked slightly bloated and it could be worms. So gave us some worm and flea treatment.
its grossing me out a bit. How likely is this to be a problem to me and my family (2 kids ages 8 and 12)?
ive Put the treatment on the back of the head/neck and wondering if I’ve done it ok! I think she keeps trying to get to it with foot or tongue but not reaching. Will it harm her if she somehow gets it on her paw for example?

apologies for the rant/ worry but just want to do best for her and us.

Flea and worm treatments are safe and used for millions of animals all over, so I really wouldn't worry. They can pick up fleas and worms, it's just par the course, but the flea treatment and worming tablets will soon get rid of them. And yes, on the neck is the right place for the flea stuff.

Something like 50% of kids have worms (without symptoms) so I wouldn’t worry.

I would also say, stop trying to work the cat out. Cats are cats. They’re weird furry fuckers who do what they want and confound you at every turn. Once you accept that you’ll be happier!

does she go in a litter tray or does she go outside? It’s a lot easier to tell if they have worms if you’re doing their tray. Back of the neck is the correct location once my cat managed to lick it. The instructions usually tell you not to pet them for a certain amount of time. If you do have a litter tray etc just make sure your throughly washing your hands etc but it shouldn’t cause an issue you.

Just worm and flea regularly and then there's no issue.i would do it monthly if she's a hunter.you can get many different products from the vets so doesn't have to be spot on if you are worried about that but spot ones are fine and normal, will soon dry,you just need it on the doing not the fur.
