Accidentally locked cat in boiler cupboard overnight

Note to self:
Always double check the cupboard with the meter and boiler is empty of cats before locking the door!

I did my meter readings yesterday and shut and locked the door as usual (its a full sized cupboard). Thought this morning that I'd not seen one of my cats since yesterday and wondered where he'd wandered off to this time. Then this afternoon ds said he could hear a cat yowling and we went outside but couldn't see anything.

I thought I'd better check the cupboard (not expecting him to be in there) and the wee bugger appeared! There was a poo and pee in there but I can't blame him for that. He was also very hungry (understandable).

Feel terrible for locking him in there and hope he's not too traumatised. I never noticed or heard him go in there and I only had the door open for a few minutes. Hope he forgives me

Have paid the cat tax!

He’s a stunner!

Oh blimey I can't count the number of times one of us has shut one of our cats in our garage overnight. We usually discover them sometime the next morning loudly miaowing at the window. They never learn & they often slip in unnoticed. They're usually too relieved to be angry

He’ll sulk for a bit but ultimately will forgive you!

Think he just wanted fed!

I once went off to work and accidentally shut our last cat in the utility room. She must have dived in just as I was locking the middle door thinking she would go out into the garden. I came home to find her all cosied up in a “nest” of knitwear which was waiting to be hand washed! We do have a litter tray in there but no food/water - she was fine though as she’d had breakfast before I left.

My late DM had 5 cats at one time, and I lost count of the times one of them got shut in the garage or the conservatory overnight. No matter how careful we were, they were absolute masters at slipping in unnoticed just as you closed the door. They all spent a few nights in a very cold garage overnight! Didn't seem to do them any harm though.

We unbeknown, locked Lucy, our cat in the (full height) outdoor cupboard after a repair. We noticed our other 4 cats sittting in a row on top of the cupboard crying. Very unusual behaviour.

It was only later one of us realised they were trying to tell us something, so went out and found “Lucy” locked in. She was none the worse, and forgave us eventually.

It was our very own, “What’s that Skippy?” moment.

I was once woken up at 3am by meowing and scratching, eventually found the cat locked inside my wardrobe. It wasn't even my cat, it was the neighbours cat! I had no idea she was even in our house the little ninja!

I shut my cat in the porch overnight once, but in my defence, he is black and I didn't have the porch light on. He didn't miaow at all and I didn't find him till the morning. Since then he won't go in or out of the front door unless both doors are open, and then he zooms through at top speed.

One of ours (the ginger cat of my name) got locked in the shed.or garage fairly frequently as he went in and hid. Luckily he was quite vocal at asking to be let out. He is long dead, but this is the current fur bag, she once got trapped inside a neighbours fence when she was a kitten

This looks like when he went into the room with the cupboard, so 6.45pm ish. And then he got let out at around 3pm the next day. That's a long time to be trapped in a small cupboard! The camera is used when we go on holiday so we can see the cats coming in and out.

I shut my cat in the car overnight once, he must have sneaked in when I was unloading shopping.
Luckily it wasn’t hot and he was fine (and did not wee in my car which is very impressive!)

Aw he'll be fine, it happens to all cats at some point! I locked ours in our porch once in the first weeks of having a newborn. It was only from about 11pm to 9am but I cried and cried, he wasn't bothered and had left his mess in a corner very neatly! Thankfully he wasn't too traumatised and now still actively tries to get locked in various rooms and sheds.
