How long would you leave one cat with twice daily visits?

We are away for just under 3 weeks next year. We have one cat, a 6 year old boy who never roams far from home and loves human company. When we go away, we usually have our cat sitter come and feed him/play with him for 2 x half an hour visits a day and he is settled. However, we usually only go away for a week max. Originally, a family member had agreed to come and stay to look after him for the 3 weeks so we booked our trip thinking he was sorted. The family member can now no longer do this due to work so we are wondering what to do to keep our cat happy.

Our cat sitter is available for the 2 x daily visits but doesn’t do overnights. Our cat has only once stayed in a cattery when we moved house, and he wasn’t happy, and we don’t want to go down that route again given he is used to being at home.

I’m debating whether he would be happier with his usual cat sitter coming in each day, or if we are better trying to find someone who can stay all or part of the time so he has more company.

Just wondering how long you would leave one cat at home with 2 x daily visits with a trusted cat sitter?

I use TrustedHouseSitters. Just an annual fee of about £150 that’s it. I’ve had a girl from Columbia working her way around Europe (she was in France before she came to me) and a couple from just outside London.
I did once leave my old cats for a week with just someone visiting. One of the cats decided to use my DD’s dressing up box as a litter box. The stench was overwhelming but the cat lady claimed not to notice it. I’d I refer someone living here for house security too.

A week max. I wouldn’t do three weeks. I think for that amount of time someone needs to come and stay to give some company x

I'd only leave my 2 cats who get on very well together for 3-4 days maximum with someone coming in twice a day for feeding. Luckily my adult DS loves my cats as much as I do and comes to stay at our home to feed both our cats and dogs. I reciprocate when he goes on holiday. My kitties would not like it if they didn't get a lot of attention in the mornings and evenings. I hope your cats won't be alone on bonfire night because they could get frightened by a firework and run off.

I wouldnt think twice. People really humanise animals. Cats dont really need people around. They might like it and be attached to you and be a velcro cat when you're there but they're not going to be that bothered as long as they're fed, watered and cosy on a bed or sofa.

Then they'll go mental when you come back and make out they're half starved.

We've left our solo cat for 2 weeks with twice daily visits. She loves being in the house and I think she would be terrified of a cattery as she's very wary of other cats and the sound and smell would be too much. Do what's right for you and your cat though, you don't want to spend your holiday worrying.

It depends on the cat. We used to leave Harry for 2 weeks with 2 visits a day and he was absolutely fine and I know he would have hated the cattery. Charlie is the complete opposite, I can't imagine leaving him home alone even when he's older. He loved the cattery when he stayed in September.
