Last year vet suggested dental for v old cat. Declined as cat was well but it seemed wrong to put her through huge procedure without medical need.
well now this year she has an abscess so is going under the knife. The possible bill is £1500 which very fortunately we can pay but we’ve had insurance all her life without a claim and thought this would be covered.
its petplan so supposedly a good provider.
anyway they have refused claim because they say dental was recommended but not done. I have said that’s not relevant - this procedure is a medical emergency. That was elective cosmetic care. Our vet agrees with me and is emailing them.
im just a bit horrified really - seems insurance is forcing to have procedures not needed because if you don’t and then need it they don’t cover it. Surely we have the right to say ‘not now’
I was also a bit upset by claims advisor saying if we’d had it she wouldn’t need this now which is not true. I pointed out dental treatment in one year doesn’t prevent dental problems the next in humans or cat!
anyway she also now need thyroid treatment so they’ll be paying for that!
