Elevated cat feeding bowls ?

Wondering if I should be using these instead of the little ceramic bowls on the floor.
Our cat does pull the wet food out onto the floor and we also seen to have her dry food scattered .
Is this a sign that they current set up is not suitable ?

Bowls are not suitable for cats, plates are much better. Cats hate having their whiskers touched and bunched up which happens with a bowl, try switching to a small plate and see if your kitty stops pushing her food onto the floor.

We were advised by Cats Protection when we adopted DCat that he needed a raised dish as he had his right leg amputated after an injury (before we adopted him).

We use a flat slow feeder dish, low sides so it doesn't touch his whiskers, on an upturned box. It's exactly the right height for him, and he doesn't need to lean over to eat which would cause discomfort.

We use little ceramic dishes from Sostrene Grene for wet food. Like a saucer but with slightly raised edges if that makes sense. I think they are probably designed for olives/dips etc but they work perfectly and look cute too.

We use a dinner plate from home bargains, £1! Cat didn't like bowls and dragged his food out.

Thank you for all the replies.
@Judystilldreamsofhorses wow,I love those bowls!!
I did try a small plate but it didn't seem to help, wet food all over the place.
I understand about the cats whiskers brushing against a bowl.
What do people think about an elevated bowl?

We've just swapped out our bowls in favour of raised ones. We did it as Old Lady Cat seemed to be having trouble crouching down to eat like the young ones do. She's much happier now.

That link takes me to an empty shopping basket.

The Stray pushes food of every pot and pan we've tried - saucers, Mason ceramic cat bowls, metal bowls, old fashioned plastic cat bowls, pudding bowls etc so I bought some reduced price nibbles bowls. She'll eat yoghurt out of them and that's it. Here for inspiration like the OP!

RaraRachael · 19/10/2025 09:20

We were advised to get elevated bowls as our cat was being sick often and it might aid his digestion. It didn't.

He flings his dry food everywhere whether in flat or raised bowls 😁

TemporaryCatSlave · 19/10/2025 10:57

I think the bowls you are using a too small and deep OP. I also use a large IKEA dinner plate with a lip to the edge to stop cat pushing all the biscuits out.

If your cat gobbles up food, vet suggested spreading wet food out over a large tray to slow down eating, I use a plastic serving tray from Dunelm and it certanly takes cat a bit longer to eat it all..

limetrees32 · 19/10/2025 13:38

@TemporaryCatSlave I think you might be right.
I'm ashamed of myself Blush
Those Ikea plates look a great design for cat food .

@Pixiedust1234 - It's almost as if cats have a will of their own,a determination to do as they please and a flagrant disregard of the wishes of their servants !
Shocking really .

Have you got a brick/unopened box of cat food etc you could put the bowls on for a couple of days to see if it makes a difference before spending the money?

Our cat was often sick after eating and it has helped quite a lot. He has stood on plot and upset everything several times times but he is very clumsy

DeanStockwelll · 20/10/2025 19:20

My cat has elevated bowls but originally it was because my robot vac kept spilling his water ( the cats water not the vacs ! ) and shoving his bowls around .
I agree with pp most cats prefer shallow bowls .

Wynter25 · 20/10/2025 19:27

I use bowls. No issues

limetrees32 · 20/10/2025 20:50

Thanks @Offcom I like the look of that!
