Cat flap advice

Hi hoping for some advice!
We are currently renovating our house and hoping to get 2 kittens at some point next year. It's made me think it may be a good idea to think about a cat flap now whilst we have builders etc.
We are going to be having 2 new wooden french doors fitted with botton wooden panel. One from the kitchen and the other for the middle room both go to the back garden( victorian terrace) so that's an option though am a but loathed to have one in the kitchen doors. IWe could put one through the kitchen wall to the right of the doors so out of sightline Not really sure what's best as obviously normally we would cross that bridge when we came to it but equally don't want to miss the opportunity while we have trades I'm. Any thoughts or advice?

The irony is we have lived with a catflap in this house in the old utility door for 12 years without a cat!

We got one put in the back door that leads to the utility. Then another one put in the quite nice door into the kitchen. That meant we could corral him in the utility if needs be or when we had visiting dogs, fairly frequently, he had a safe space with his food and access to outside.

it also meant that he had free access to outdoors and kitchen at night and we could close the door to the utility.

we also made the outdoor door one a microchip cat flap to stop interlopers. Highly recommend.

the cat is no more and I’m know looking at the cat flap in the kitchen door which doesn’t look great….but ignoring it, I’m not sure anyone else notices it.

I’m having one fitted into the side window next week. I didn’t want holes in doors and on show. Have you thought about a window one instead. Get the flap fitted with it leading to your back garden not front as it’s safer for the cat.

I agree a microchip catflap is the way to go, we have a Sureflap.

Ours is in the wall, which is fine, but it's only in the wall because we couldn't fit one in the door at the time.

Previously we always had the flap in a door and I prefer that, it's easier to fit, and easier for the cat to pop in and out. There is a slight stretch and scramble for them when getting in/out through the width of the wall. And also of course they have no visibility whatever when going out through a catflap in a wall, so if an 'enemy' is lurking nearby, they don't know till they are out there. With a door (even if wood rather than glass) they can pop their head out and have a look.

Having just read the PP's post, it reminded me we once had a catflap in a window too and that worked well.
