I have an 11.5 year old rescue cat who was just diagnosed with diabetes and has been prescribed the new oral medication.
She is super nervous and timid, I have had her for 11 years, she is an indoor cat and she still hides from me sometimes, if I go to stroke her she can get spooked and go hide. I live alone and no visitor to my house ever sees her, she hides from my catsitter who is a proper cat whisperer even. As she had to go to the vet last week and had bloods taken she is even more on edge.
I tried to see if she would lick the meds from the syringe (as my other cat was interested and licked the end before I had moved the syringe) but nope, she licked then made a face and moved away. Tried it in a bit of tuna, which she would normally wolf down but wouldn't touch it. So then tried to hold her and syringe into her mouth and couldn't get near her.
Does anyone have any ideas? She was supposed to go to vets to be reweighed and I couldn't pick her up and she hid. I did manage to get her on my bathroom scales later and she has lost 0.2 kg in 9 days and is due back at vets in 2 weeks for bloods, so I am really struggling to see how I can manage her diabetes without her spending all her time hiding from me. All help very gratefully received.
Sorry, that turned into an essay....
