Large litter trays?

Hi all,

Not long ago I bought a large stainless steel litter tray, which my littlest cat uses. Prior to this I had a regular plastic box but littlest cat likes to get in the corners to pee and quite often she was just peeing right over the side.

The new stainless steel litter tray is great, but it has a plastic clip on section to make the walls higher. Little cat is still peeing up the corners and sides and it is now coming through the join between the steel tray and plastic.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a tall walled stainless steel tray?

Does it need to be steel? Pets at Home do some great large, tall sided plastic trays.

The best thing that was recommended to me was the extra strong extra large litter lining bags.
And then put the lid on top sealing it into position. There’s literally nowhere else for them to go.
It’s saved my sanity

Seconding the Pets at Home giant litter trays. They have a rim that's removeable which overhangs the inside of the tray by an inch or so, which also reduces scatter if you have a very enthusiastic digger (looking at you Tobias). Plus they are not expensive

I have 2 indoor cats but a very small utility room. So only 1 litter tray. I tried the karge ones but found them very difficult to wash in a normal size sink. I use covered but yes occasional accidents.

I have a very deep top entry one from Zooplus

I also have a lidded one from pets at home the wall at the back and sides is about 8 / 10 inches and slopeing down to about 4 inches at the front.
But it's plastic.
If you want to give plastic a go before shelling out a small fortune get a storage container, you can get them in alsorts of depths and sizes.

We have a very large open plastic tray (a really useful box from memory) which we deep fill with litter. To get round the problem of peeing over the edge I provided a plastic splashback (thick plastic sheeting attached to the wall and going into the tray) behind it which removed the problem completely. . Fortunately none of ours pee over the front of the tray.

Zooplus link

  • This has been a great litter tray, it’s the largest I could find last time I looked. Dimensions: 71 x 56 x 25 cm (L x W x H)

You might find that with a very large tray your cat feels more comfortable and stops peeing in the corners.

Hi all, thanks for the replies.

Not against going back to plastic at all but I do find the stainless steel much easier to clean.

I think I will try the top open tray

Yes this is the one we have - never had any issues with pee getting out or in the cracks and they’re super easy to clean too.
