7 months old kitten has Haws syndrome

My kittens third eyelid has been showing in both eyes for a couple of weeks. I’ve taken him to the vets and they gave him a good check over. He did have diarrhoea for a while and despite 2 lots of Panacure, it persisted (the vets prescribed another 5 days worth). In the end I tried him on Royal Canin Hairball cat biscuits and his stools finally went back to normal. But the third eyelids are still there, partially covering each eyeball. And this weekend I’ve noticed that some of the stools in the cat litter have an irregular shape again, suggesting they might have been soft to begin with. He’s also been letting out a fair bit of eggy smelling wind.

Hes happy enough in himself, but I’m not sure what to do next. I’m probably going to take him back to the vets again next week, but wondering if anyone has had similar?

We got another kitten 2 months after him, and I’m wonder if it could be stress related because of the introduction of another kitten.

Here is a photo of him to show what his eyes look like. If you zoom in, you will see what I mean.

Hello,

In my experience this is usually caused by an upset stomach, have you used any other wormer other than Panacur? I'd probably take him back to the vets if it continues and might be worth running a faecal test for nasties like Giardia etc.

He's a very handsome boy. I hope he feels better soon.

Hi, thanks for your reply. Besides the Panacure he has a monthly flee and worm treatment which goes on the back of his neck. Yes, I’m going to take him back to the vets this week for another review. He doesn’t look himself at the moment. Still has his appetite and hoovering up his food 😺

Is the flea and worm treatment you’re using prescribed by a vet?

Haws syndrome aka Torrovirus or disease of the cat is a viral gastrointestinal infection usually of young cats. There is no specific treatment, just supportive treatment till the immune system can get rid of it.
