My kittens absolutely LOVE pipe cleaners!

Call me mad but all the cats I know love a good cardboard box, maybe with some smooth holes cut in. Ours has the most expensive toys but will still choose a box to play in 😂 there’s also lots of enrichment bits you can do with boxes, like hiding treats in them for kitty to find

I found mine loved the pop up tunnels that they could race through, I got a mixed pack of kitten toys off Amazon which included one, whole pack of assorted toys was about £10

Balled up paper seems to beat everything.

Little foil balls and the Kong kickers! And the little mazes you can get to put their treats in..I miss mine being a kitten 😆

Lie in bed with your feet sticking out of the covers at the end…

Not a vast amount of fun for you unfortunately!

Or move around in bed and let them chase your hands and legs through the covers, aka 'bed mouse'.

Otherwise, corks from fizzy wine bottles or the scrunchy paper that's used instead of bubble wrap these days. Or you can dangle a shoe lace in front of them.

If you're looking to spend money on an actual cat toy, rather than give them a load of litter to play with that will make your house look like the Amazon despatch centre, this is what our many foster kittens most reliably played with:

Laundry detergent dosing balls.

Laundry detergent dosing balls.

And those, as evidenced by finding a load under the shoe rack in the utility room or the sofa when suddenly all the dosing balls we had have been lost and you don't get them with a bottle of detergent any more because plastic reduction.

What are you recommended toys/activities for kittens please

Oh, kittens are such little bundles of chaos and curiosity — everything is a toy to them at that age! When mine was tiny, I learned that the best activities are the ones that let them chase, pounce, and “hunt.”
Here are some of my top kitten-approved toys and activities:

  • Wand toys (like Da Bird or feather teasers): Great for bonding and burning off that endless kitten energy.
  • Rolling balls or track toys: They love batting these around — it keeps them busy even when you’re not playing.
  • Treat puzzles or slow feeders: Perfect for developing their problem-solving skills and keeping their little minds active.
  • Tunnels and pop-up cubes: My kitten used to zoom through these like she was training for the Olympics.
  • Soft plush toys: Good for cuddling and practicing their “hunt and bite” instincts safely.
  • DIY fun: A cardboard box or crumpled paper ball can sometimes outshine expensive toys — kittens are simple like that.
And if you can, rotate their toys every few days. It keeps things “new” and exciting for them. Watching them discover something fresh every time is the sweetest thing.

Definitely da bird. Best thing I ever bought. My 2 still go crazy for it. Ping pong balls. Massive cardboard box with holes and a second level! You can get some fake tissue paper 'cat grass' and fill a box with it, hide treats, balls, other small toys- love it! Kickers with a 'crinkle' sound. One of mine also likes a large bowl, like the washing up bowl, filled with water. I put a ping pong ball in and some milk lids with a treat on for her to go 'fishing' she loves it!
