Hi, just wondering does anyone keep their cats indoor only. Adopted 2 kittens and as they've never been outside thinking they won't really know any different. Hate the thought of them going out into the big bad world

We got our two from a sanctuary and they were to be indoor only, they were for the first few months, then they got sad and stared out of the window. £18k later they have a whole garden catio with a pond and all sorts. What the cats want the cats get, the sooner you learn this the easier it will be!

This sounds amazing, cat haven. Would it be cheeky to ask for a picture i would loooove to see it

We had planned on keeping our two as indoor cats and succeeded until they were two years old. They were spayed and microchipped at five months just in case they did escape.

They wanted to go out and we felt it was cruel to keep them in, was particularly hard in the summer to keep them in the house. They now have access to go out when they want and to be honest they don't go out much and never venture further than our big back garden and front garden.

We never leave them out overnight and don't let them out after 9pm. They are usually in bed by then.

I think if you can keep them for as long as possible it's worth it. Personally I think they are less likely to stray.

This post gives me hope if I can get them to the age of 2 they might have a sense of caution then and only hang around our garden

They're happy at the minute with their cat tree and toys, DH is putting up shelves on the walls for them too as they love climbing and sleeping high up

Yes. My bengals are indoor only. I agreed with the breeder I purchased them from that they would be kept as indoor cats.We have a large catio outside our sitting room so they can be outside but it’s completely secure and they can’t get out of it.

I’m normally very pro letting cats out, but if my neighbours had form for shooting cats with a pellet gun I would feel rather differently!

Could you cat proof your garden so they get to experience the benefits of outdoors and get to roam around a bit, but are safe?

Yeah, we will have a go at cat proofing the garden now so it can be ready by spring next year they will be 1 then. Going to look into catios too DHs parents neighbour has a fab catio it basically extends from their kitchen window at the back of their house so the cats can come and go out and are always safe.

My husband bought the necessary from E bay for the garden. Think cost was about 200.
