Cat flap for double glazed UVPC window

Any recommendations?
I've been advised that it will have to have 2 flaps and I'm not sure that my cat will cope with that .
He's used to using a single flap but is cautious by nature , pausing at doors which are only slightly open.

Not that's very odd that you've been told that, you will likely need a new pane of glass, we've had a sure flap connect installed in the kitchen door which is glass. You just buy the adapter kit

I have seen pictures of double cat flaps where a hole has been made in a brick wall, so a cat flap at each end of the “tunnel”. But can’t see why you would need to have two in a fully glazed window. . My kitchen door is half glazed so the catflap is in the bottom half.

Yes we have that in a brick wall, nearly killed dh putting it in 😂

As far as I know you can't add the cat flap to an existing glass door / window as it compromises the seal but my mum has had a glazing company fit a ready made new glass with a cat flap in it.

Thank you , that's good to hear.
It is a double layer of glass but it's not a large thickness that needs bridging.

Here’s ours (when the pictures load) only one door and fitted by a local glazer with no issues.

You don't need two flaps. We just had a Sureflap put in a double glazed UPVC door and it has a flap on the inside. The outside there is just an indentation the thickness of the glass (so from the cat's perspective it is like an open shallow hole with a flap at the end of it).

The existing glass should be toughened glass, (see UK Building regs) and therefore can't be cut. However the whole pane can be replaced with a hole cut before it's toughened.
Your local glaziers should be able to advise.

Alternatively you could consider fitting a "cat tunnel", through a wall.
It may help to cut the hole and let them get used to it before fitting the flaps, possibly one at a time.

We have a Petsafe single flap in a double-glazed unit. The unit will need to be replaced and we've stored the old one in case the next occupants of our house (if we ever decide to move) don't want a cat flap.

Thank you all ,so glad that a normal cat flap can work .
Good tip about storing the old glass ,though rather feeds into my hoarding habit Smile

If you don't need the window to look out of you could replace the glass with a uPVC panel and fit yourself. I'll upload a pic as I've done this in the boiler room/ cupboard understairs. Was very simple to do. I've kept the glass so I can replace it if we move.

We had our cat door put in the French door .They measured, took the cat door, made up a new sealed glass panel with cat door, fitted it . The original glass is safely stored.
Our cats had never used a cat door before but very quickly fathomed it (microchip activated but they say it's their "Magic Necks" as they sail through .
