Does anyone here foster cats and can offer advice?

I have never fostered before but I am getting my first foster cat next month and am wondering what to expect. I know all cats and cases are different but I’d like to know what your experience has been generally?

this cat in particular has never lived in a home before. She is 2 years old and spent her life so far in a cage. She has been looked after by people but has only ever known the cage in one room.

I am expecting her to be very scared and confused and she may be difficult to transition but I will willing to have a lot of patience and take things at her pace. Does anyone have any advice? Should I prepare that she may have a bit of fear aggression?

Do you have a spare room?

I rehomed (via rescue) a semi-feral stray and what worked for her in the early weeks was having her own room, with good vantage points and hiding places. I visited regularly and just talked to her. It turned out that she absolutely loved toys so that was a way in to engaging with her. I couldn't stroke her to start but would put my hand out as she walked by so she got used to touch. The key thing is to go at their pace, don't let them out of the room until they show interest, but do carry on normal life, don't be extra quiet or avoid hoovering outside the room etc as you want the cat to get used to ordinary household noises while they are in their safe place.

My girl was, and still is, very bitey and swipey. Turns out she just likes biting. So long sleeves, watch for signals when you're stroking, find out what works as a distraction, and have Savlon to hand.

Yeah I have a spare room where she will be staying ☺️ thank you for the advice, I spoke to the rescue yesterday who said she really loves to play so I think your idea of using play to engage with her will be good! Thank you
