Cat Cremation help

My cat was runover and died today. The lady at the vets did explain to me what I needed to do but it's all a bit blurry

Am I remembering correctly that I can choose any ( within reasonable distance ) pet funeral place and they will pick my cat up from the vets? Then will they return my cats ashes to the vets or to me? Also, I don't remember her saying there was a fee but do they normally charge you for keeping your pet at the vets whilst waiting to be picked up for the cremation?

Also..... do I have to pay for an urn from.the cremation place or can I just get his ashes back? I would prefer to buy my own urn or box elsewhere as they have limited range

Sorry for so many questions I have never had to deal with a deceased pet before

Either the vet will arrange the cremation or you can . With the pet crem we use you can get them to collect / deliver or you can take the pet yourself and collect from them ( it’s really no different than a human funeral home) . I would imagine a scatter tube would be the cheapest option and then you can transfer the ashes to whichever urn you buy . At the one we use they have a wide range of urns / containers and will also do hair collection , paw prints / moulds etc . Sorry for your loss .

Sorry for your loss of your dear cat in such a sad and traumatic way, was he insured, if yes they can help with the costs. The vets may have a list of pet cremation services and you can usually arrange to have him collected from the vet and returned to either the vet or your home, our little cat was picked up and returned to the vet, the cremation company had a choice of boxes, urns, we opted for a little wooden box with her name engraved on a nameplate which we keep at home. Would you like us to look up services local to you, the vet nurse will be happy to talk it through with you. Where would you like to have your cat.

Sorry for your loss
My cat had to.be PTS this evening
She has stayed at the vets who arranged cremation no fee for staying there, i make a claim from my insurance for cost of her being PTS.

I have chosen to have her ashes put in a urn all of which is payable. If you use your vets they will.have a booklet of urns etc. Then the ashes are returned in my case to the bets to.pick.up

Check your insurance policy if you have it as mine does not pay for the actual costs related to cremation and urns.

Thank you. I ended up using a local pet funeral place. They were really nice and they brought him home today. They said his nose and paw prints would come in the post. I chose a cat on top of a book from their selection for his urn and his fur in a little jar.

I still can't believe he's gone. I still feel terrible. I keep hoping it was all just one big mistake and he will come strolling in any minute

Thank you. He is back home now. They picked him up from the vets, did what they needed to do and brought him back to my house. I wa surprised as was expecting to have to pick him up from the vets

I chose a little cat on a book from their selection. I still can't believe it's real. I feel so bad for him. I know he's gone now but I just feel terrible. I really wish it hadn't of happened to him. He has a bonded littermate and he keeps calling around the house for him

He was a really gentle snuggly cat, a proper lap cat and he was really shy and only ever came and sat with me.

I'm so sorry for your loss. It's just awful

His insurance only covered medical costs. It was £205 all in all for his cremation, urn, ashes back, paw print, nose print, ashes and fur in little jars.

I feel terrible for him, I feel like the cost of that is the least I could do for him after the way he died. I havnt felt that helpless in a long long time.

@UnreasonablyUpset3
Yes that sound reasonable cost for what you got.
I paid a just little more and i took my own hair clipping.
Yes its worth every penny.
Sorry yours was in such tragic way.

So sorry for your loss. We are on holiday and sadly the lady feeding our cat called yesterday to say she has been run over. It’s so tough isn’t it?
