Very elderly cat with super claws

Our cat is 18 and a half, she doesn't climb trees or do stuff outside like she used to and her claws are now very long any ideas she ignores any scratching posts but we are all getting very scratched.

This happened to our cat as she got older - she had arthritis meaning she couldn't retract her claws properly. We had to trim them for her so she didn't keep getting them stuck in things. If you can't do them yourself then I think the vets would be able to do it.

I do our old cat’s myself with clippers (very carefully and just the tiniest bit to take the sharp point off) but the vet will also do them. He goes in every couple of months for blood tests and if I ask they’ll do them at the same time, no charge.

Our 18 year old doesn't go outside any more so she goes to see the vets nurse every 3 months or so for claw clipping. They weigh her at the same time which is helpful.

Thank you, I'll ask the vet. Growing old is lousy.

I get the vet to check claws when mine go in for their MoTs. I think Girlcat has had hers done once in about 9 years, I used to do Boycat's myself because he was a bit of a klutz & needed help with his.

In Tobias's case, they do those for me when he's being sedated for anything - he's not exactly the most amenable cat to having anything done!
