New kitten in a bunk bed?!

We are getting a new kitten this week. I thought we were prepared. Our older cats went into the kids’ room for the first few weeks to accustom them to life and start a slow introduction to our elderly scrote of a grumpy cat, which worked perfectly. The kittens officially slept in a cat bed on the floor but actually with whichever kid catnapped them to their bed first.

But this new kitten will be a lonesome, and she’ll have to go in with my son - who is in a bunk bed. Is a lonesome kitten ok in a cat bed on her own? I can’t imagine she’d be safe in a high sleeper!

DS is very concerned about his new kitten and would definitely best in the floor with her at first if it’s required. Am I over thinking? It’s just that she’s going to be sleeping alone and she’s so small!

I think you’re overthinking it. When we got our youngest cat dd1 was in a high sleeper and the kitten climbed up with her most nights. Cats are great at climbing 😂The kitten will find a place to sleep.

The kitten will find his own sleeping place. I should think he'd be fine on the high sleeper - in my experience kittens have a mostly vertical trajectory and spend most of their time running up and down curtain rails, top of wardrobe etc.

Does the room have space to pop the mattress down on the floor if your wee one wants to sleep alongside it? My kitten was a twat and he fell off his cat tree multiple times and thats only a metre! I think your kitten will be fine in the cat bed but if it would be a lovely bonding experience for your wee boy couldn't he just do a floor camp bed for a week or so? (Im such a sucker.....)

And this is why gofaster sleeps on the sofa and the animal have the bed, so ignore me!

No - DS has the tiny room! He’d be dragging his bedding down to the floor. I’d worry about it getting squished between an air bed and furniture.

I’ll have to play it by ear, I think. Let DS take it to bed with him if it gets upset, as long as he takes it back down for the litter tray. Thank goodness for home education so I don’t have to worry about us all being up all night then getting up for school!

That’s very reassuring - direct experience. Thank you!

Our older cats waited til they were quite a bit older to navigate a bunk bed. But then this one may be more motivated.
