Cat weeing/spray everywhere

So my cat 8 years, male, neutred has been peeing and spraying everywhere. He's been to the vets where she suspected stress uti as he was panting ( he hates the vets) and prescribed cystaid and loxicom. I've got feliway plugs, places for him to hide, a litter tray which he does use for wee and poo. I haven't managed to get a urine sample to the vets yet as he hasn't weed in the tray within the window to get it to her. But will try again Monday
I've also given him cat nip. Last night my son forgot to shut his door for a bit. Weve Found loads of fresh stuff thanks to the UV torch. I've also been using enzyme stuff to clean. Is there anything else I can do?? He's slightly over weight and always wants food. He's seems happy but she said owners never think their cats are stressed when they are. Obviously keeping him out of bedrooms is probably making him more stressed.

An extra tray is a good idea, you can buy the cystaid off amazon cheaper (look for cystease, it’s the same thing) and maybe try a different type of litter in the second tray (my vet says they like ever clean unscented)
a snuffle mat or food puzzle toy if he has dry food

Does he go outside? And if he does, is there a new cat on the block scaring him?

If he's an indoor cat, does he want to go outside? Does he get enough stimulation/enrichment indoors?

What is he fed? Cheap dry foods (eg Go Cat) seem to make male cats in particular more susceptible to UTIs.

He does go out but mainly chooses to sit in the garage. I tried him on untamed etc but he won't eat it. He's currently on whiskaa and dry. He has 4 pouches a day so a lot of wet food. We've just got him a water fountain to see if that helps.

I'd be tempted to try to switch his dry food to a urinary food and see if that helps.

Sorry i dont want to worry you but maybe ask them to consider a scan once test results come back and if no improvement on meds.

We used the white crystal like litter from the vets cant recall the name
but it was good to get urine sample if he uses it.
Very small so need a few to cover the tray . Can get it. bit cheaper on amerzon.

My cat was treated for stress / sti weeing tiny bits every minute and in pain. ( she was a very stressed cat to be fair).but she didnt respond to meds so they tried another type for a few weeks more, no joy so she had a scan and they found a mass in her stomach.

I'm so sorry to hear want your cat!! How old was she if you don't mind me asking? He doesn't strain to wee and will have a big wee in the litter tray. I don't understand. We caught him on camera spraying up the side by the window so I've no idea what's going on. Vet told us to stop the meds loxicom as he threw up and if not better to bring him back

She was 11 but never had any health issues in the 7 years i had her.
Sorry i see that yours does use the tray but for future ref the litter we used was called Kat Kor the wee just sits on the beads so you can syringe it up. Pic attached

Your vet can get urine sample from him manually very easily you can get one in time frame maybe quicker to do that so test can be done.

Is he eating more or same ?
Is he nurtured ?

My cat was stress weeing everywhere. We treated that with medication and got her spayed and that essentially cured it. But if I have less than two litter trays she will start weeing in her old haunts around the house.
Also she likes to have free access to the whole house or she gets stressed and claws at doors.

DanceWithYourBalloon · 02/09/2025 10:26

Oh and litter type mattered very much. She hated anything too large to stand on so we had to upgrade to a finer clumping litter that felt better for her paws.

So if wanting food all the time and if not already suggested by the vet you should ask to have the
Thyroid tested as constant hunger can be a symptom of thyroid problems.

My one that is currently is staying at the vets for something else

18 months ago she had the same symptoms and lost some weight over time she had blood test for it and was diagnosed with Tjyroid issues.
