3 year old cat pts

Our 3 year old rescue cat was pts today. He basically became very unwell on Friday, brought him in to vet that evening, they said he had a heart murmur, they did an ultrasound didnt find anything but that his blood was like water..they did bloods, said he was severely anemic, to keep offering him foods and keep an eye on him over weekend..he stayed the same over weekend, was eating small amounts here and there. Brought him back in Monday for blood tests results, they gave him antibiotics, a worming medication and a steroid. Brought him home and i thought he perked up a tiny bit but only very slightly and probably more wishful thinking from me. He actually got worse then this morning he collapsed and fell into his food. Couldn't walk, wasn't eating, totally vacant. Brought him in again. Vets couldn't say what was causing the issues but that essentially there was nothing that could be done. I couldn't bear to see my sweet beautiful boy in so much pain and basically on deaths door so made the very difficult decision. I am just in total shock. I can't understand what happened. I don't have any conclusive explanation for what caused the anemia. I'm wondering was he poisoned? It was all so sudden and he was just a baby and was so healthy. He was Our first cat, my daughters who are only 3 and 5 are so upset asking when will he be back. I've come down tonight and every night he would come and cuddle on my lap. Now there's nothing...just don't know how I will ever get over him being gone.

So very sorry to hear this. We lost our lovely girl to cancer aged ten last year, so obviously much older but still young, and it was absolutely horrible. It was a proper shock diagnosis for us, and we let her go the following week. It broke my heart but I also know we did right by her, and that she had the best, best life with us. I’m sure your boy had the best life with you, and knew only love. 🤍

How awful for you all, so very sorry. Did the vets mention poisoning at all? It seems such a strange thing to happen in a young, previously healthy cat. Really feel for you.

I am so sorry. It is always hard to lose them but three is so very young that it must feel almost unbelievable that he can be gone.

I lost a dearly loved cat to an auto-immune disorder. She was absolutely in her prime one day, collapsed the following day and had to be PTS two days later because all possible treatment had failed. When it is so sudden and so out of the blue, it is a colossal shock, as well as a heartbreak.

Be kind to yourselves. You loved him and gave him a good life, and made the right decision when he needed it. Knowing you did all you could for him will help as time goes on.

RIP dear cat.
Have the vets suggested a post mortem and if so, would you find/pay the £300 to get some answers?
Be kind to yourselves.

I’m so sorry for you op. Signing up to a pet is signing up to grieve, but what you have gone through is not fair. We are supposed to have much longer. Nonetheless, you gave your boy a good life while he had it. You loved him. A brief but beautiful life. This must be so hard for you.

When we brought him into the vet initially she asked if he had vomited or diarrhea which he hadn't (that we knew of anyway) and asked if we had any Lillie's at home which we don't. And she asked about his weeing and he had started going outside for his wees which had never done before.

I just can't process how sudden it all was. The second vet said that it could be a virus that was dormant from when he was stray before we got him.

I knew I had to let him go, he couldn't walk he was so weak, couldn't eat....they didn't mention anything about a post mortem so I'm not sure if we can get that done. He was just the perfect cat for us. Gentle, caring, affectionate. He really helped me through some really difficult times. Don't know how I will ever get over it

Thank you all for your kindness everyone. We thought we would have him for a very long time so it's just devastating

I am so sorry for the loss of your lovely boy 💔🌈💔

So sorry. I lost an 8 year old to HCM and kidney failure. I felt really cheated out of the years she should have had. We lost a cat at two when I was younger. It’s just horrible.

Oh bless you - we lost a little boy cat suddenly at much the same age and it is heartbreaking. We knew our boy was ill but the speed and finality of his decline was shocking. Be kind to yourself.
