Hi everyone, I’m hoping for a handhold or some advice from people who have been there/done that.

We are two weeks into having our kitten home, he’s now a 14 week old male Siberian, quite a big kitten for his age. Very cuddly and cute and I know I’m really lucky in that so far he hasn’t really been too destructive, like destroying furniture or running up curtains or anything. But he seems to have constant zoomies, racing round all round the rooms downstairs and up and down the stairs. He’s not allowed in the bedrooms yet but zooms in as soon as we crack the door open. We were expecting some zoomies but this is literally all the time that he’s awake. We try to play with him loads, with the fishing line toys, balls, puzzles, tunnels but he just wants to race around. He has now also started biting everything - is this normal? Biting the lampshades, books, anything really. He has a chew toy that we distract with but now he has also started nipping us while we’re sitting on the sofa, on our legs, backs. We move away and give him his chew toy or kicker toy. He races across us, over and behind us on the sofa.

i don’t know what im asking really, maybe just is this normal? And how long will it last? We’re just exhausted and walking on eggshells, with this gorgeous kitten just hurtling everywhere constantly.

All totally normal! He’s probably teething. My kitten nibbled all my lampshades too. He’ll grow out of it.

It's normal behaviour. He's like a human toddler - and you wouldn't expect one to sit and be quiet all day, would you? He'll be like this for a year, I'd think. This is your first kitten, isn't it? Didn't you do any research first? Has he been outside yet? Will he be going outside?

Long experience of having cats.

Apparently, a 14 week old kitten is equivalent to a six year old human. So yes, he's a hellion and also yes, it's normal. My question is, are we going to see a photo of him? He sounds lovely ❤️❤️❤️

My kitten was like that from that age to about 8 months. Very rarely I find her up the curtains these days (she’s 2.5 now). She sleeps 10am-5pm every day and has bursts of activity at dawn and dusk.

Thank you all for replying.

Yes, he’s our first kitten - we thought we had done lots of research and were prepared - we expected the energy and zoomies but not to this extent. Perhaps we were naive. We thought lots of hunting, pouncing play would help and we try to do lots of this with him but if anything it seems to wind him up more. We had planned on him being an indoor cat and agreed this with the breeder but this is making us rethink. He’ll be neutered at 6 months.

Reassuring to hear similar experiences, thank you!

What worried me a little bit is that the first week we had home (last week) he did sleep most of the day, playing morning and evening like you say, but this week he has become so energetic, hardly sleeping in the day, and having almost no calm time, just zooming constantly all day!

I’ve brought home 2 14 week old kittens today from a rescue, they can be ‘done’ at 2kg, so hopefully in next couple of weeks then I can let them out to loose some energy

We’ve been told we have to wait until 6 months to have him done as he only has one testicle descended at the moment…
