Lump on cats back

My lovely boy has quite a large lump, just under his shoulder blades but just to the side.

He has elbow dysplasia and is on daily metacam. Had his last blood test for this 10 days ago which came back fine. He also had his boosters, could that be linked?

He's letting me poke and prod it with no issues and is running about wild as usual. Eating and drinking fine.

Is this a "keep an eye" job or do I need to get him to the vets this weekend?

He's my world so a bit upset.

Of course you should take him to the vet

I think it’s the booster. When my kitten got her injections she ended up with a pea sized lump on her shoulder blade. I was hysterical 😅 took her to the vet and they said vaccine reaction.

I do hope it's that, his booster was on the 19th so maybe a delayed reaction? He's letting me poke at it without complaint (well, nothing above his usual level of complaint).

I work shifts and live alone so getting him to the vet needs planning at the best of times.

Sorry forgot the cat tax.

Yea, almost certainly the boosters, one of mine gets this sometimes the lump comes up a week or so after the jabs and takes a couple of weeks to go down, it's very common.

Hi please get him checked my cat reacted to his immunisations with a precancerous lump which have turned into sarcoma if left untreated he had it removed and is fine. Rare but happens.

How big is quite large?

One of my cats always gets vaccine reaction lump, but it’s only about marble sized.

My old cat once got a lump on his back that was more cherry tomato size and it was an abscess from another cat biting him.

Probably slightly bigger than a marble but I'm fairly certain it's not an abscess - I have too much abscess experience from a previous cat! She just about bankrupted me 🤣

One of our cats had a lump on her neck after her booster. I was sure there was something terribly wrong, but the vet explained it. There are lymph glands in that spot and they react to the pathogens in the vaccine. It's very common in cats and not unheard of in humans; I had one under my arm (another site where there are lymph glands) after my flu jab once.

As this is something new for your sweet fellow, ask the vet to take a look at him. It's very likely a vaccine reaction, but if there's something else going on he's in the right place.

Thanks @Tortielady. I'll call the vet tomorrow and see what they say. The poor boy has been to the vet so many times in his little life and it stresses him out but rather be safe than sorry. Although this threat has eased my panic!

Beautiful cat.
Yeah, I should have mentioned that it definitely appeared at least a week post vaccination. Wasn’t an instant reaction. It was a hard jump but could wiggle it and she wasn’t bitter by me touching it at all. Took a few weeks to go.

You've really calmed me down, thank you!

I’ve just found the picture. You can see the white fur has a hump. It’s usually a straight line. She was adorable back then. She’s absolutely chunky now 😆
