Flea treatment suggestions

We have used, and they all worked for a while until they didn't any more (fleas became resistent)...
Frontline drops (active ingredients fipronil and (S)-methoprene)
Advocat (Advantage) (active ingredients imidacloprid and moxidectin)
Seresto collars (active ingredients flumethrin and imidacloprid)

I also Indorex'd the house 2 months ago.
I wondered what flea potion people use after Seresto collars fail to work anymore.

Bravecto seems to have active ingredient = fluralaner. Bravecto is prescription only which is going to make it fairly expensive. Is there anything else we could try before we resort to prescription-only options?

thanks in advance

I genuinely think prescription only are the only ones worth bothering with. You’ll just waste money on the cheaper stuff.

welll... like I said, the others worked, usually for years, until they didn't! So am glad we didn't go straight to prescription options before.

Seresto collars are still working well for a friend who lives 1 mile away.

But yeah, prescription may be only option now! Just asking around before we go with prescription. I guess prescription itself is likely to cost £36/yr for each cat plus the meds are probably £6 or £7/month... I'll update when I find out for sure.

We used frontline for a couple of years and our little girl would often get fleas in the summer. Last year I got some from the vets, annoyingly I can’t remember the name now and I’m not at home to check, but it has worked an absolute treat. It’s about £90 for six months worth but so worth it as she’s not had a single flea since we’ve been using it, it’s SO much better. So yeah, even though it’s pricier I think ones from the vets are the only way!

You will need prescription flea treatment for it to work. We read horror stories about bravecto so refused to use it (it was all our 'chain' vet could give us) so went elsewhere to get Felpreva which worked almost instantly and doesn't seem to have the same side effects (most cats seem fine with Bravecto but there are definitely worrying issues and we didn't want to take the risk). We used the Felpreva once along with RIP Flea spray on literally everything that couldn't be washed at 90°c and thorough double vacuum of the house and we've had no fleas in over a year even though the little buggers are out all the time.

It cost us a fortune especially as we had to visit a second vet and really hard work doing all the spraying and vacuuming but well worth it as we were completely overwhelmed by fleas (and the associated worms) last year and it was sorted pretty much overnight.
