Cat pee on car seat

As title suggests on a trip back from the vet our four year old girl peed on the back car seat. She was in her carrier, but hates it, so dd got her out to sit on her lap. Dd tells me she didn’t realise she had peed, but ‘somehow’ the seat seemed wet when she got out. Too right it was - it was sodden and had gone right through/down the front of the seat. I used our usual spray to try and blot/remove, but obviously this had sunk well in. I soaked the seat with the spray solution, dried it as best I could and left it essentially to bake in this heat.

Oddly, seat still smells! This is, for me, a new car, bought with money left after my mum died, so I am stupidly attached to it and really, really upset that this has happened. Can’t tell dd that as she is upset enough as it is, so, anyone one have any miraculous suggestions that may help at all? I have been looking at spot carpet cleaners, but can’t even decide on which one to try. Other than slicing a chuck out of the seat is there anyway I can get rid/lessen this at all?

Get some dr Beckmann with the brush.

itll have gotten into the actual seat where you cant clean it. Best to try and get a professional in.

I think I would have it professionally valeted. My brother’s cat peed in my car and it took forever to get the smell out. Every time I thought I had cracked it it would be ok and then the sun would shine and it would stink again.

The only thing that worked for me to finally get rid of the smell of cat pee was spraying it with vodka. That was after trying endless potions that I bought that were supposed to do the job.

TheOpalReader · 25/07/2025 18:37

You need a specific cat urine cleaner spray, I have one that's brilliant (old cat and moving house didn't mix well) it destroys the enzymes in the wee and stops it smelling. I think biological washing powder does similar.

feebeecat · 26/07/2025 00:34

Thanks all, @TheOpalReader - do you have the name of it? Am wondering if I just saturate it, it might help. Eventually. Current spell of hot weather is really not helping.
@MrsCat1 - vodka? How does that work then? Am willing to give anything a go and if that doesn’t work can just drown my sorrows instead.

Not sure of the chemical process but in desperation I liberally sprayed a brand new coat and sofa with it and it did the trick. This was after trying endless alternatives, including professional help. Assuming the pee has soaked right in I’d be tempted to chuck a lot of vodka on top and see if that helps!

Baking soda can help as can white vinegar for cat wee

Baby26 · 26/07/2025 07:52

We have a cat that pees where he shouldn't (luckily, mostly on hardfloor), and another that is poorly and vomits often. We got this spot cleaner, which is really good for washing our furniture and carpet https://amzn.eu/d/fBHIfNK
And I'd recommend this cleaning solution, as it needs to be Enzymatic to get rid of cat pee smell https://www.petsathome.com/product/simple-solution-urine-destroyer-for-pets-1-litre/33878P?productId=33878&purchaseType=easy-repeat&volume=1litre

It's called 'urine off cat & kitten spray' it's in a silver bottle. I'd have thought that would work, I'd maybe saturate it then leave it to dry, then wash down well and leave to dry outside.

feebeecat · 26/07/2025 09:31

@Baby26 thanks for that, I have been looking at a vax one and tying myself up in indecision. Am guessing it will be quite useful going forwards. Now for the technical question, is dog pee the same as cat? The more I read, the more confused I get.
@TheOpalReader - I am thinking I may just need to saturate it and hope for the best.
Or, if all else fails, there is still @MrsCat1 option! Not sure how it would go down, driving around stinking of vodka 😂 Definitely worth a go though - love it!
Thanks all

@feebeecat I know on the description on that website it says for dogs but it is for cat pee too. The bottle itself advertises for cats and dogs. The ingredient you need for cat urine is the Enzyme solution, which this contains. This is the stuff I use and it works wonders with my troublesome cat and his peeing habits! It smells nice too.

justmeandtheclan · 26/07/2025 19:20

Baking soda and vinegar. Spot cleaners have some animal shampoos that may help - maybe a shot or two of zoflora in it too. God cat piss stinks I feel for ya

GlitteryUnicornSparkles · 28/07/2025 16:52

Hire an carpet cleaner with upholstery tool. I have a vax, works great on issues like this.
