Kitten unwell after vaccination

Hi all,

i had my 2 11 weeks old kittens vaccinated and microchipped today. The female was fine, however the male had a vasovagal episode immediately after and “fainted”. He came too after a minute or so and the vet said some kittens have this response to the pain/stress of the injection/microchip. This was around 10am

Since coming home both were quite sleepy, which i expected, they had wet food at 12 which is their normal routine. However the female has now perked up and has eaten and drank since, the male has not as is still very sleepy, rousable, but hes not really moved from his favourite sleeping spot all day. About an hour ago he vomited and is refusing food and water.

i have called the vet who has said this is ok, and if he is no better tomorrow give them a call back. But hes so little. He doesnt drink alot so ive been giving them plenty of wet food in this warm weather to ensure they dont dehydrate but with him not eating or drinking now, he has me worried.

Has anyone had a kitten who reacted similarly to the first vaccinations and/or and can offer some reassurance.

Thanks

One of mine was very poorly after his vaccinations. He was very lethargic and just slept on my lap all evening. By the next morning he had perked up considerably so hopefully this will be the case for yours too. I guess it’s no different to your human baby being unwell after vaccination. If his skin ‘tents’ when you gently pinch a bit you might try syringing some water into his mouth at intervals.

Thank you for the replies. Ive had him asleep next to me and hes finally eaten a spoonful of food and gone back to sleep. His sister is running around the same as before! Crazy how differently they have reacted. Hopefully by the morning hes back to his usual naughty self. I dont think ill be able to sleep all night without checking on him. Im firmly attached to these little maniac fluff balls already

Does he like lic a lix? Maybe give him some of this. I know how you feel my boy didn't eat for days a few weeks ago and it really affected me.

Paws crossed he is ok tomorrow.

He seems much better today, hes had his usual food, sleeping more but has been playing too. Thank goodness, he really worried me!

I'm so pleased to hear that. So worrying, especially when they're tiny.

In 27 years I have never ever had a vasovagal happen as a vet. I think I would be recommending a check with a cardiologist just to make sure it is nothing more concerning.
the lethargy, not eating is normal - the collapse is not.
