Sneezy Kitten

Hi,
We have been selected as servants for 2 gorgeous little tortie kittens, we collected them on Saturday. They are really good and settling in really well, but one is doing a lot of sneezing. Now they are in every nook and cranny going so I'm wondering is it just a dust thing? Or should it be something to worry about. I have them in with the vets on Monday for their 2nd round of vaccinations. Just wondering should I be concerned.

They are beautiful! Torties are my favourite… such little characters ❤️
If the sneezy one is still eating and drinking and running around I’d not worry too much but I’d just ask the vet at your appointment. When we moved house one of ours started sneezing and it turned out she just had cat hayfever (we moved to house with fields out the back) which was resolved by cat antihistamines.

HarkerandBarker · 09/07/2025 21:50

It might be a dust allergy but to be on the safe side I would take them to a vet ASAP.

Thanks, didn't realise there was such a thing as cat histamines!! 😀 she's in great form, eating and pooping! And doesn't sit still, they are very playful and so funny to watch (I've done nothing since we got them 🤗) that's put my mind at ease at least and I'll ask the vet on Monday. Thanks folks

Oh what beautiful little kittens! I love torties.

As she sounds fine apart from the sneezing I would wait until your appointment. Obviously, if she deteriorates in any way get her straight to a vet.

Any chance of more pics?!

Trying to get them to sit long enough for a picture is hard work 😁😁 they are just gorgeous

Thank you! What gorgeous little faces. I am completely smitten.

What cuties! Our previous cat was a sneezer - the vet said she “had a sensitive nose”. I don’t think I have ever seen our boy sneeze in the 15 months we’ve had him. I wonder if cats are like people with this sort of thing - I sneeze at least once most days as stuff gets up my nose, DP only ever sneezes if he has a cold. It’s just our normal.

I’d absolutely wait until Monday unless she shows other signs of being unwell. Our insurance gives us access to a 24/7 helpline where we can talk to a vet nurse which is a useful sense check for this kind of thing, you might have similar?

It's a hard old life being this cute 😍

What a relaxed kitten. Clearly very much at home already.

TwoeightTwoeightTwoOhhhh · 10/07/2025 23:02

Have you ever been owned by a tortie before OP?
There is this thing known as tortitude and it is 100% not a rumour or an old wives tale. It’s is fact.
Cats are masters of the home but torties… well they are a whole other level! They are furry bundles of stubborn attitude that will own you with nooooo qualms. If they love you, they will LOVE you and nobody else.
i know that could describe a lot of cats, but tortitude is real (and it makes you love them even more for it)

whatanicedress · 10/07/2025 23:04

My cat was very sneezy when he was a kitten - the vet said it was because he was so much closer to the floor and loved wedging himself under the sofa where it was very dusty 😅As others say, if she's still eating, drinking, and toileting, she's likely fine.

See i think this is what it is, she's in every corner and squeezing herself under furniture that hasn't been looked under in, well, a loooong time🙈 then the sneezing starts! But we're at the vets on Monday morning so I'll see what they say. They're both in great form, so playful and eating and drinking and having lots of little naps they've settled in really well, it's like they've always been here 🥹 we lost our beautiful big ginger ninja in February and he left a massive gap we miss him so much

Nope, first time servants to torties 😁😁 it's so funny you say this because a work colleague of mine has a daughter who is a vet and she told her we had adopted two kitten torties and she said obviously she hasn't heard about the tortatude 😁 and two of them double sass 🤣🤣 one is totally in love with me (the non sneezing one!) Sneezy is in love with dh even though he pays her no attention 🤣she follows him about. Think we're in for fun times with these two

So had the girls to the vets and they both have cat flu got an antibiotic shot and eye drops. Just can't believe we only have them a week how the frick did they get cat flu, feel terrible for them. But they are both in great form and still playing and eating

OP posts:
3kidsaremorethanenough · 14/07/2025 21:35

So the eating has taken a downturn this evening, could it be the antibiotics??

OP posts:
CatChant · 14/07/2025 22:19

Cat flu - oh poor mites. Fingers crossed for a good, swift recovery. I’m not surprised they are eating less if they are feeling under the weather.

What did the vet say about how ill they are likely to be?

I have a stately old gentleman who survived a nasty bout of cat flu contracted as a neglected, inadequately fed kitten before he was rescued.

One tear duct is still slightly blocked and he will eat everything and anything in sight in his determination never to go hungry again, but he made a wonderful recovery and is probably the sweetest-natured cat I’ve ever had the privilege of sharing my home with.

3kidsaremorethanenough · 04/08/2025 10:56

Well the girls are fully recovered, they recovered well within a few days and are now back to their little playful selves. They are such a handful, into everything but we are enjoying watching them. They are so affectionate too so happy we have them 🥰🥰
