Cat food that makes poo less smelly?

Just wondered if you have found any particular cat/kitten food that notably made your cats poo less stinky?
We are bringing a kitten home at the beginning of August who is currently on IAMS kitten food, not sure what this one is like for smelliness of poo. I just thought that if we needed to gradually transition to another food, was there any high quality ones you'd recommend for reducing the stink of the poo! Obviously, I'm not expecting their poo to ever smell pleasant!

The raw makes poos less smelly.

Untamed! Honestly I couldn’t believe the difference, I can’t even tell when they’ve used the litter tray, literally no smell at all. The good thing about untamed is they do a two week trial pack for just £8 and both my girls love it. They have been on untamed since 15weeks old

It depends on the cat IMO. Mine are currently on Sheba wet and IAMs dry - no issues with smell but they do go outside so most of their business is done out there.

I second raw food. Even the dog is oblivious to the contents of the litterbox. (Doesn’t work for dog poo smell though. :-))

Thank you all so much for replying. This is really helpful. Good to know about the untamed - that sounds like it is definitely worth the trial at least! I'm sure I will be back with more questions soon

Mine has Scrumbles dry and Encore wet. Hardly any smell. In contrast with the cheap food she was on straight from the rescue, the whole house used to need airing after a poop.

Hills Science Diet dry. I've fed all my cats with this over the years and there's no smell. None of them turned their noses up at it either.

I’d be very wary of a raw diet especially if you have young kids in the household because there’s a significant risk of really nasty bacteria like salmonella and even if you’re shit hot on the hygiene around bowls the cat can transmit by licking you after a meal. I have heard it’s good for litterbox smells but personally wouldn’t risk it.

It may not even be an issue for you. One of mine can literally eat out of the bin and doesn’t smell particularly bad. The other is really prone to smelly poos, has to be strictly kept away from any human food and after a lot of trial and error we’ve found whiskas of all things is best for him.

penelope has Thrive wet food and Amazon lifelong and there is little to no pong.

Wet we use Katkin which is cooked “raw” IYSWIM, I could give you a referral code for a trial pack with 50% discount.

Dry we use Eden 80/20.

Both seem expensive at first look but they barely need to eat any in comparison to the general junk cat foods.

Another vote for raw food. It’s so much better for your kitten too!

swizzlestix · 12/07/2025 21:09

Thanks - too tips there.
Yes please to the katkins referral code Smile

I feed my girl PurrForm raw and her poos are stink free mostly.

RandomMess · 13/07/2025 13:03

@swizzlestix send me a pm and I’m send you the referral link.

swizzlestix · 15/07/2025 07:22
