My cat apollo has a freckle in his eye its been there for years no issues the vet has never mentioned it when checking him over even though he has looked at his eyes however today ive seen a cat who has eye cancer hers started as a freckle too then suddenly got bigger over 6 months now her eye is full and there isn't much they can do about it for her do i

Watch and wait and save like mad just in case or

Make a vet appointment knowing it could be bad news I can't afford to fix

He doesn't have insurance he is an indoor cat plus he gets a small heart murmur almost everytime he goes to the vets so that would have shoved the price up so I didn't bother especially now he is 7

I wouldn’t bother.

The vet hasn’t mentioned it. Lots of people have eye “freckles”. So presumably cats are the same. Most come to nothing.

Plus it will stress the cat out for nothing and even if it was bad news you cant afford to fix it.

Nothing good can therefore be achieved by going to the vet. Just assume the cat is currently fine.

Take him asap. Our rescue had cancer in her eye and had to have it removed. She is still gorgeous, though, and is happier since it was removed as the specialists said she would have had a massive headache and very blurry vision in that eye.

She can still climb walls and fight the local toms!

Before she was diagnosed. We assumed that because she was a tortie that this was normal. It really wasn’t.

Original 2-eyed photo under review.

The cancer hasn’t metastasised and she’s fine because we caught it early.

My gorgeous DC has a large freckle in her eye. The vet said it is a kind of eye tumour, but that it is 99% of the time confined to the eye and that if it gets bad they will take the eye but she herself won’t be in danger. It’s sad to think she may lose an eye, but she’s had the freckle since 2020 and it’s not grown any since then. The vet said it won’t even be bothering her, and I only need to seek advice if I notice it pulling on or distorting her pupil.

Why do you need to save? It should be covered under your pet insurance. Just the excess to pay.

EDIT: Missed the but about no insurance. Lesson learner there I suppose.

I've checked with my daughter she honestly feels it hasn't changed so I'm keeping a close eye on him any changes he is off to the vet I'm googling pet insurance but as he has a heart murmur it's going to be expensive anyway I do have some emergency money stashed so I'm hoping that would cover it if there was anything to worry about

If this is something that’s been noted by the vet previously it could be considered a pre existing condition and not covered by insurance.
