Solid plastic cat carrier for escapologist cat.

Need a recommendation for a make of hard, plastic cat carrier that has solid sides that do not have hinges or clips holding top and bottom parts together.

I have a cat who is a master escapologist who has in her 4 years already broken 2 transport carriers - first she opened and then broke one of the small clips that holds the door in place and, most recently, she broke out by breaking one of the large clips that secures the top and bottom.

I think it needs to be a hard one as I expect she would massacre a soft carrier.

Any recommendations?

I hope this isn't too irritating because it's exactly what you didn't ask for but my Houdini cat has been bested by a fabric one. She has clawed through many fabrics but not made even the slightest tear or damage to the carrier. Nor have my other three, though they aren't nearly as good as escapes as her.

This is the one I have: www.robertdyas.co.uk/pawhut-51cm-foldable-pet-carrier-for-cats-and-miniature-dogs-grey?cq_src=google_ads&cq_cmp=20381374449&cq_term=&cq_plac=&cq_net=x&cq_plt=gp&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=20391038821&gclid=CjwKCAjwo4rCBhAbEiwAxhJlCclQ7Xb9OAEhMxlIjsEgt-9mL4iXGSi6JyVsSd0GoaUnRD0XZ1QTuRoCLj0QAvD_BwE

Don't get a plastic one, get a metal one, nothing is more secure:

Yes, yes, yes to the MDC one linked above.
I've had feral cats in them - and kept them in!

I was also going to say the MDC one linked above. Used by all professionals and rescues.

Pinkyplat · 06/06/2025 17:10

Yes!! I have these. Impregnable.

Also it's relatively easy to get them in compared with side-opening carriers.

And there's no risk of setting off without realising you haven't latched it properly (because the lid has to be pinned shut before you can pick it up with the handle, iyswim).

Another vote for the MDC carriers. I have a couple and they’re the only ones I’d use 😺🐾

We have had literally hundreds of clients' cats escape from fabric ones. They don't generally tear the fabric, although it can happen - they manage to undo the zips. Also fabric ones are quite claustrophobic for cats.

OP - buy the MDC ones!

Lunde · 06/06/2025 19:44

Thank you so much - I'm going to look into the MDC one

Another vote for the fabric one linked above. Two escapologist (and super fat) moggies. Ain’t neither of them getting out of that carrier!

Toddlerteaplease · 07/06/2025 08:54

Curver picnic basket style. With a cable tie on the little hatch you can get your have in. I have an escapologist as well! I’ve recently invested in an isofix tavo Dupree carrier for long journeys that seems pretty escape proof.

CatsRuleMyLife · 07/06/2025 13:06

Another vote for the MDC ones, we use them for all ours now as I completely neurotic about them escaping!

Another for the MDC - after asking for advice on here a while ago. Very happy with it so far. Yes, it’s not as “attractive” as some of the fabric or solid plastic carriers. But it’s sturdy, really easy for loading/unloading cats and I’m really pleased I went for it.

Lunde · 08/06/2025 11:14

Thanks for all of the advice - I have ordered the MDC one in blue!

Good choice. Another bonus of the MDC ones is that they last for ever. There are no little parts to snap or break or possibility of cracking through accident. You will have it forever.
