Vomited a worm!

This is a first for us in years of cat ownership...fairly new cat, we've had her a month, she hasn't been outside in that time. Informed by Cats Protection that she was up to date with flea, worm, vaccine treatments. This morning she vomited up a live roundworm 😱 Booked in at the vet for 12pm but I'm not gonna lie I am a bit freaked out! She's perfectly well in herself, (very) active, shiny coat, no visible worms in poo and this is the first vomit since we've had her, but for her to sick one up I'm guessing it must be quite a bad case? She does eat as if she's never been fed before but both we and CP assumed this is because she came off the streets as a feral kitten and grew up not knowing when or where her next meal would be. I feel awful even though I know it isn't anything we've done!

Also, we do have another cat (they don't get along yet and mix a minimal amount) and a dog - both regularly wormed but are they likely to need further treatment too? What about us, obviously wash hands after litter tray and feeding etc but are we likely to have picked them up as well? 😱

I’d worm your other pets too, but you can check with the vet when you see them later. No idea about whether you need to treat yourselves - another Q for the vet!

It is grim - I had to look after my elderly DM’s cat for a while and it vomited up a tapeworm 🤢 <not envy> So that was worm and flea treatment for DM’s cat and my own.

Grim is definitely the word, I was just thinking 'that looks weird, what is that?' and it moved 🤢 I suppose I should be grateful she didn't take a leaf from the dog's book and re-eat it - I'm sure he would have!

One of our kittens who had been wormed before coming to us arrived with worms after about a week! I can’t look at chow mein on the same way again! It’s really common for kittens to have worms, they need to be wormed monthly until 6months of age

We have all been de-wormed...cats, dog, and humans! Pharmacist in Boots did comment that it isn't a scenario they hear every day 😂

I might pass litter tray duty to DH for the next few days...not sure I want to see any more even if they're dead!

My foster cat had a severe case he must have vomited up about 10! He had treatment with the spot on treatments but kept having an upset stomach. Then put him on a course of panacur and out they came it was vile! Then they came out in his poo as well for days. Safe to say he’s absolutely fine now! But the spot treatment must have had zero affect. Broke my heart he was living like that for so long
