Not sure about vets advice

We have two rescue cat's who are nearly 13. The boy has never had control of his tail but it has never worried.him. We noticed that there was a.cut on the bottom of his tail, which we have cleaned.and it's now scabbed over. My dh said let's take him to the vet as he might need anti biotics.
At the appointment she didn't really look at the cut just picked his tail up and dropped it, then told us it should be amputated and it.might be cancer. I said no and we left but is it something I should considet

It really should be amputated, it’s an awful thought but it could be hurting him or he could trap it and if he has no feeling in it could become quite serious

I agree - a tail with no feeling will be more of a hazard to him in old age. If it's paralysed it won't be much use for balance anyway.

Thank you if she had explained it like you have that would have been helpful

Can you talk to a different vet, who hopefully will communicate better, allowing you to feel confident in their advice?

Thank you I feel that this might be the sensible option

Paralysed tails are at huge risk of damage or injury so are usually amputated to prevent this.

It's not completely paralysed he can move it, just to clarify
