Three years ago, our then 6 month old moggie ate something similar in size to a button and he had surgery to have it removed. Surgery was pretty hard on him, but he made it through ok.
We are pretty sure he has another obstruction, vet is monitoring him until we can get an x-ray, tomorrow ( Monday) to confirm.
Last time it cost $4000 . ( Aussie dollars)
Do we do it again? He may live a long and happy life from here on out, or he may eat something stupid next month.
This is the third time he has had an obstruction, the second time with the help of the vet and some heavy duty laxatives and pain relief it was dislodged.
What do we do? We love him so much but are conflicted.

Is it the financial side you are concerned about, or the cat’s recovery? My take would be that if an animal can have treatment that will allow them to live a happy life afterwards, yes, go ahead - we have decent insurance but would find the money above and beyond if need be.

However when our previous cat got cancer last year we did not go ahead with chemo which would have extended her life for a short period, but not cured her - it would have been very distressing for her, and we would have been doing it for us. She was only ten so it was heartbreaking to let her go, but I think we did right by her.

Wait, your cat is only four? In that case I would beg borrow or steal the cash, provided the vet felt it was in his best interests to have treatment!

Hmmm. If I'm honest I guess
it's not about the money. I'm just concerned at the recovery time and how many surgeries he can have over a lifetime for the same thing.

Yes, he is only 4 and that makes it even harder.
The vet said that maybe 3 obstruction surgeries would be the most he would do on one animal.
