Cat (Siamese) behavioural issues, not using tray

I have a 2 year old Siamese cat adopted three months ago.

He was very loving and grateful at first. However in recent weeks he has started biting and doesn't always want to sleep on our bed anymore (maybe the heat). He's become less friendly.

Today he was pacing a bit whilst I was on the phone. He'd had a long cuddle for an hour but had been 'ignored' for half an hour whilst I was on the phone. He then wee'd and pooed on the rug, no where near the litter tray.

As it was wasn't just a wee, I'm suspecting it was behavioural (attention seeking?) What can I do to improve things so he doesnt do this again?

I'm at home a lot (WFH) but my partner and kids vary in days/times they are home so impossible to have a 'fixed' routine.

Next week the garden will be cat proofed so he can go out (currently indoor). Is this likely to help? He's never been outdoors but seems eager to go out (hence booking very expensive cat proofing).

Thanks in advance.

Has he been checked for a UTI? If that's fine I'd say yes, he's lacking stimulation and hopefully outside access will help. They are bright creatures and boredom is no one's friend.

Thanks @Springadorable he hasn't been checked for a UTI (yet) as it only happened today, but I will try to get him a vets appointment tomorrow.

Without being too grim, as it was a wee and poo I thought it more likely a behavioural issue (like you say, understimulated/protesting)?

I cant wait for the cat proofing to be done, he really wants to go outside and hopefully this will make him happier.

Have you had a Siamese before? They can be quite highly strung! Does he have places up high he can get to? 2 litter trays in a quiet space? Feliway? It's worth a vet visit and if there's nothing medical I would recommend a behaviourist, if he's insured it might be covered on that

Hi @1984Winston he has the trays and lots of quiet spaces. Having thought about it i think hes probably found it quite stressful watching me in the garden for a few hours today and often this week, whilst he's stuck inside. He really wants to go outside with me, hence the cat proofing being booked for next week (he sits and yowls at the door).

Thanks I will look at the behaviouralist option if the vets and garden access don't solve his toileting issue!

I cat proofed my back garden and it's the best thing I ever did, it may well be stress from not being able to get to you, fingers crossed he settles once that's done

Thanks @1984Winston that's great to know 😊 I cant wait until the cat proofing is done. My cat follows me round inside, so I guess it's logical he'd feel stressed watching me outside whilst he's shut in...
