Cat having dental work soon and hardly eating. What can I tempt him with?

Booked in with vet for dental procedure. Seems okay in himself but hardly eating so presuming eating now not comfortable. What can I offer him to tempt him to eat? Or would something like kitten milk be worth trying?

Lick-e-Lix? Or cat soup?

Our old boy was having the mousse type of cat food towards the end of his life as his teeth were so bad and it didn't need any chewing!

None of these are probably great for cats' teeth long term, I know, but might help in the short term while he's waiting for his procedure.

Royal Canin Mother and Baby cat food is a mousse texture which might be good for bad teeth. I’ve just bought some for a local charity and the Amazon reviews suggest cats really like it. Issue might be getting him back onto normal food!

hope he’s feeling better soon

We’ve just been in the same boat , and agree with @Roundaboot .
Felt very guilty after the procedure, as our old girl ended up having six teeth removed - happy to report she is thriving now and her appetite back to normal .

Raw mince? I second the lik-e-lix as well.

Fresh prawns copped very small.

Thanks. Went to Pets at Home and bought a variety of your suggestions. So far he's eaten half a tube of lik e like and a couple of mouthfuls of purina mousse with chicken. Will keep tempting.

i Used to get a Tim of the gourmet with the soft centre and then mix in a bit of licky lix on top in the hope that it meant she got a bit more properfood.

Some of the shredded type food - applaws?

Thanks for all your comments and support but I've cracked it, inspired by the suggestion to offer tuna water.

I hadn't got any tuna but had a can of sardines in oil. After eating practically nothing for two days he's just lapped up a spoonful of sardines in oil as if there's nothing wrong with him! Amazing! Will give him another spoonful in a while.
