My cat (hairless breed) has always had soft poo. He is 4 years old. Vet says he's perfectly healthy. What can I give him to firm up the poo? He's an indoor cat and the problem is that he gets poop on his tail because his tail is curly. Help!

I had this problem with my half MC/half Ragdoll who we got from rescue just over a year ago. His poo was absolutely stinky and slightly loose. Because he's long-haired he kept getting poo stuck to his fur!!

He doesn't really eat wet food at all in spite of my attempts to persuade him but he drinks a lot from his water fountain (he is slurping noisily as I type!)

He gets the little Purina tins or Sheba trays but he only licks them a little. I changed him onto Scrumbles dry food (Tesco/Sainsburys/PetsatHome) and it's been a game-changer! I also stopped giving him Dreamies and instead he gets Scrumbles or Mr Pickle treats.

The other thing we did was put more litter in his tray. My boy is indoor too.

There is another thread saying Royal Canin hairball food clears up diarrhoea. You could try that and report back.

Unfortunately a lot of pedigree breeds can have quite sensitive digestion. What is he being fed at the moment? You could look at swapping to something without grains or with a different level or type of protein to see if it helps.

Would Pro Kolin paste be worth a try? It firms up faeces and is a probiotic

There's a dry food (maybe Purina?) specifically for indoor cats which makes their poo much pleasanter to deal with. I get it in Sainsbury's.

If he'll eat it, switch him to an all meat food like Katkin or Untamed. When we brought our kitten home his litter box absolutely reeked while was eating the food recommended by the breeder (Hills I think it was). He also had issues with poo getting stuck in his fur.

We switched him to a high quality diet and his poo literally doesn't smell AT All. There is also barely any of it and is firm and dry.

Thank you all for replying to me. I have tried Pro Kaolin ( not sure if that's the spelling!), Katkin and Untamed to no avail. I have tried other foods but no change. He has both wet and dry food. Tried poo firmer and that certainly stopped the stink and some of his poos less runny and he's isn't going as often. He seems calmer since he's been on that so I think having to go for a poop several times a day wasn't much fun for him. I found the thread about hairball dry food, either royal canin or Purina so I went straight away to buy some and started it yesterday. I'm continuing with the stool firmer and not giving as much wet food so he eats the hairball food. Today he had a partially formed poo so I'm feeling hopeful. There's been less on his tail too which is something I really want to solve for obvious reasons but also because it is bad for his skin and he gets so stressed when I have to wash it off. Thanks again for your help. It is very much appreciated. If you think of anything else that I can do please post!

I swapped my very sensitive girl onto Amazon lifelong.

I am very surprised the pro kolin paste did not work it's magic.

You forgot the cat tax. (Waits impatiently)

one of the benefits of feeding cats a 100% meat diet is the poop improvement - it is much smaller and less stinky. So it could help your cat to swith to a 100% meat diet - most commerical catfood includes grains and fillers which cats cant digest.

I feed my 2 KatKin and they love it - they are so healthy, energentic & glossy since swaping to a 100% meat diet.

Hope it works for you! It's no fun cleaning poo off your cat! Even my placid, laidback boy goes bananas!

I know! It worked for another cat I had and for my dog. But not for the stinker 😂😂😂

UPDATE 💩. He has been eating hairball dry food for two days and his poo is firmer! Tail is clean! He has some wet food but only a little a couple of times a day and he also has a few treats and some lick y Lix. I'm still giving him the Stool Firmer but overall things are looking better. Thank you for all of your comments 😊.
